I started playing BF2 again after being away for 5 months. The server I always played on is empty all the time. Is this the start of the demise of the game?

Here we go again, BF2 is dead, but yet when i look at the globel server list theres still over 2000 ranked servers.
I guess theres so many people paying for the servers but no one wants to play.
