erm..... they got money from the US and Saudis. that means they had more than either the US or Saudis. get it?
Duh, and how much did the Pakistanis actually put in?
In financial terms there is no doubt the US and Saudis were the major players, if they were dumb enough to hand the money over to the Pakistanis and let them take all the critical decisions then really it just shows how dim they were.
As we can see, it led to a flourishing Taleban and AQ and ultimately 9/11, GG Team America!

woah! i've only been away a couple o'days and already this thread have been usmarined beyond recognition.
@FEOS: ok, man, i give up. you see, in this world all organizations loose the focus on their individual member's values and needs when they reach a certain "critical mass" - simple dialectics, you know, quantity becomes quality. it always happens: corporations, political parties, religious orgzanizations, states, the list goes on - all of those unerringly become control and manipulation systems and nothing else. thus, socious constructs we call "states" cannot by default act out of humanitarian needs of some people on the other side of the globe.
well, anyway, one thing i learned about so called "patriots" is that when it comes to their beloved "great nation" they are about as dence as the most obstinate religious cretins out there. so if you wish to be a part of something "big, and kewl, and righteous" - if you crave it so much you are willing to go against the common sence - fine. after all i'm not here to make anybody change their mind (hell, i agree with marine on this one o_O). so, i leave you in peace to live in the fairytale you call "actuality" and that fantasy land you call "the great nation of usa".

if you open your mind too much your brain will fall out.
The Taliban were Pakistani, not Afghan. They didn't roll in until after the Afghan civil war AFTER the Russians withdrew. The various muj warlords had fought each other to the point that no one could do anything about the Taliban when they decided to roll out of the NWT, through Jalalabad, and into Kabul.Dilbert_X wrote:
I was referring to the Afghan Mujahideen, the Taleban and AQ together, not just Bin Laden.
The overthrow of the Russians being the kickoff for effective islamic guerrila action - funded largely by the Americans and without whom its doubtful it would have succeeded since the US played the central role.

Ah, I see. You've got fuckall to support your argument so you spout some nonsensical personal philosophy and then say that because I disagree with you, I'm a brainwashed American.Shahter wrote:

Let's not bother with the facts or anything.

you've got just about the same "fuckall" to support yours. it's all a matter of interpretation. as i said earlier, you are a brainwashed american, i'm a brainwashed russian - we just can't help it. what really matters is to try and see through that shit. you are happy to remain what you "great nation" wants you to be, i'm not - well, to each his own i guess.FEOS wrote:
