I'm not the anon karma person.

I believe a lot of modern exchanges still support rotary phone tech. I know that with some phones you used to be able to "tap" out a phone number if your keypad was restricted for any number of reasons, like some kinds of coin-operated payphones for example. The number of taps per digit dialled was equal to 10 minus the digit itself on some exchanges, and on others it was just equal to the digit, with 0 being 10 taps. Handy if a payphone only block the microphone.
