So in dive school we would be put upside down in 30ft of water and our surface air would be shut off.  water would start to flow into your helmet from your neck damn because the helmet was no longer pressurized.  The face plate on the helmet was taped over so you couldn't see and the water would flow over your face and nose making it hard to breath.  It would slowly fill the helmet as you went through your bailout proceedure.  Upside down without seeing you would report no air and request neumo(sp) (secondary air line for finding depth) and you would have to find the neumo line and jam it up your neck damn which would flood your helmet.  They top side would (to our surprise ) not give us neumo air and we couldn't talk because we were now holding our breath.  Our last option was to go on the bailout tank to purge our helmet.  In the paniced state you had to remember to pull your neumo or your bailout wouldn't work worth a shit.  After you could get a breath you would be screaming to the topside for air and they would resume it and tell you to go off bailout.

We also did what was called crab fights in the 10ft tanks where 3 blindfolded divers would fight while air was turned on and off.  We had to stop when someone paniced so bad they pulled a knife in the tank.  But the idea of the drills was to enable you to function during the panic that ensues when you are drowning.  You still have to be able to talk clearly to the top and rig your helmet without seeing.  People panic when water is making it hard to breath or you are going on a minute thirty without taking a breath and your helmet is still flooded.

I would imagine this is very similar to waterboarding EXCEPT you are still under control.  Having people hold me down and do this to me would suck very so much, especially if they could do it for as long as a I could stand without killing me.  I am sure this did not happen to USmarine.  He most likely got the very limited intro version, not the fucked with for hours to completely break his ass version.  Panic is panic and they do it to induce panic.  It is what it is.  Call it torture, warm fuzzy torture, or not torture but there is nothing wrong with it when used to gain info from terrorists.  It is humane to the point it sickens me that it is even being debated.

Some accounts say hundreds of times over the course of years...

Yeah, it doesn't take an IQ of above 30 to guess if you read the op... or understood it.

Imagine you are convicted of a crime and given 20 years with no parole, but also the option to submit yourself to the same CIA waterboarding proceedure used on terrorists at club gitmo to reduce your sentence.

For each session of waterboarding ( not sure what or if there was a time limit to the boarding ) you recieve 4 months off your sentence.  You get to pick the number of sessions only you will do and have to pick the day you are convicted.  Maximum of selecting 59 sessions because they need a 4 month period to waterboard your ass if you pick 59 sessions.

Do you?  How many sessions?
Picking the number of "sessions" isn't exactly "the option to submit yourself to the same CIA waterboarding proceedure used on terrorists at club gitmo."

So, as I asked:

"How many times would you be waterboarded if you were an alleged terrorist at Gitmo?"

Put one and one together. Your answer should be two.

Political commentary in a D&ST thread? Oh the horror!

Let me know when your personal experience includes waterboarding over a period of months, not minutes.

Oh and do you also need some help on how to use image tags?

edit: lol. You'd sooner delete a post and resubmit one than hit edit?

I'd go for waterboarding. The important point though is that I am willingly being subjected to it and am not a potentially innocent person having such treatment forced upon me.

It's not torture.

I'd be happy to withstand it just to see what it's really like.

It's not like it physical pain or harm... It's not like you can bleed out after and die, I really don't see what the big deal is... How can being roared and shouted at while having your head plunged in and out of water for long sessions be classified as torture? That's ridiculous...

Any person who classifies it as torture comes across to me as a complete spoilt twat, the likes that sue for damages done to them at the workplace, the greedy, the selfish. Americans come to mind.

Flame on fuckers.

Its not having your head plunged in and out of water.
Its having water poured on your face continuously so you can't breath, you can have heart failure, brain haemorrhage etc.
I would like to see you try the full version, the average CIA guy lasted 14 seconds, we'll see how you like it

NY Times said Khaled Sheik Mohammed was waterboarded 183 times in 1 month, but that was apparently how many times they poured water over his face in about 5 sessions or something. (don't remember where I read that info, will try to find it)
