Well i'm experimenting with a new sig, where i'll have the text on the left, with a black background, which then fades into a picture on the right. but i can't seem to get the fade right at all. i've tried using layer masks, which works usually when you would merge two actual images together, but not an image into the background. otherwise the edges around the image are clearly visable and it looks.. idk. i tried smudging and bluring, but it looks really, well, untidy.

Use two layers:

Image one.

Image two.

Use the eraser.

Set the eraser transparency to 50%.

Delete layer one with the eraser when you want it to merge.

Erase this area again for a 75% blur.

Layer one over the other, start erasing at 30%:

Go over the same area, erasing with 30% transparency:

You'll be more precise than this though. lol Just change the transparency and size of the brush as you go.

cheers for that reaps.
well, rather than creating a new thread, thought i'd just ask a second question here.
i've noticed, some teams have logos which use shapes that look something like brushes, etc.
eg.

how exactly are these shapes created? I've searched through many dynamic brush sets etc, but most of them contain shapes such as arrows, and Circles with crosses in them etc.
they wouldn't be made in adobe illustrator by any chance?

Hey...I have Empire kneepads.

But to answer the original question: Layer masks and gradients always work for me.

Second Q: They could be created using the pen tool.

whenever i try using pen tool though, it will create these curvey strokes, not the straight type i would want. any way to get this solved?

It should only create curved lines if you click and drag while placing a new point.

Those are vector shapes... or they can be hand drawn... I have a few i could zip up and upload if you want?
they go in the custom shapes folder in photoshop...
