Same-sex couples in Iowa began holding hastily planned weddings Monday as the state became the third to allow gay marriage, a leap that even some supporters find hard to grasp in the nation's heartland.

Within hours of a state Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage taking effect, several same-sex couples had exchanged vows on the steps of the Polk County Administrative Building.

The couple were allowed to wed after getting a judge to waive the state's three-day waiting period. The waiver was granted after the couple claimed the wait was stressful on Keeton, who is pregnant and due in August.

The couple, who will go by the last name Keeton, were married by the Rev. Peg Esperanza of the Church of the Holy Spirit. She later married at least two other couples, all at no charge.

It's a bit surprising coming from a state as conservative as Iowa...but it's old news, tbh.

I was surprised to read that they'd been married by a Reverend...but that is a good thing.

+1 karma to Iowa!

What I don't understand is why these gay guys want to get married under a CHRISTIAN ceremony? Why can't they just get married without having to tie religion into it? I think that's the problem, I don't have a problem with people getting married in whatever way, but I don't see why these guys want to deliberately have a Christian ceremony to get married.

So they're not Christian enough to stay straight but Christian enough to have a gay Christian wedding

It's only a problem if you think it is.

No, he's not.

It's obvious that he likes that Iowa has legalised it. The first line is taking the piss out of Christians/Muslims/Jews etc.

Do you know a lot of people who go around stoning people who work on sundays, or sell their daughters to slavery?

I assume you meant females.  But male blondes with said tight bodies could also be "going for it non stop for 5 hours"... still hawt?    (not actually arguing either way, just think that argument is lacking.)

Lol wut.

John 9:16 (New International Version) wrote:

16Some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath."
But others asked, "How can a sinner do such miraculous signs?" So they were divided.
So you're saying Jesus should have been stoned because he was the only perfect man.  But hey, take the bits you like and extrapolate whatever you want from it.  Note there is no part of the Bible instructing people (in context) to sell their daughters to slavery.

My Nephew and Niece (actually step bro/sis) are gay, I love them to bits as I have always done, I wasn't so tolerable until they 'came out' tried arguing with them as they were (still are) kids.  Telling them they didn't know what they wanted as they were so young (17 ish).  I used to be a piss taker of disabled kids until the ex started working with them, things like this helped me mature.

I mean, who the fuck am I to have a go at someone that wants to do something legal with their lives that don't effect me?

I've never seen a Jew pull those stunts either. Care to elaborate?
