I've got 2x 256 ram and 1x512 ram sticks. Pentium 4. Currently have an ATI 9550 card in my pc. Latest omega drivers.  My older card broke last week so with what cash I had I bought the best I could instore.  My previous card was a 9800 pro.

My log in takes ages now, often, 45 secs after clicking join game, once the map has loaded. Im getting mountains turning to a constant black colour and then other shapes will. This process comes and goes. Usually running 25 fps.  I have most video options off or low, 800 x 600@60. Draw distance at 95%

Ive been back to the store and asked them, "could I bring my card back which I bought last week as it isn't up to the job?". "Yes" they reply, "put the money we give you back to a higher model". Im happy with that.

The best they have to offer me in my budget is nvidia 6600 le. It has 256 (oh is agp aswell). I've searched the forums here and have read a mixture of good an bad things about this card. I have to make a decision in 2 days what I'm going to do.

Do you think the exchange of cards is worth it. I'll have to stump up an extra £40? Will the upgrade to 6600 le get my settings back to how they used to be, ie fairly quick log in, settings on medium.  Will the new card give me improved performance?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

6600 le is a ok card not one of the best but i suggest u get the 6600gt if u can or 7900 gt if u got the cash. and upgrade 1 more 512mb stick so u can take full advantage of dual channel

had the asus 6600 le..... card is shitty for battlefield.....go and get you a 6800le (also then activate the missing pipelines by riva tuner google for that...) or even better go and get you a 6800 gs - pretty fast and cheap - also u can highly overclock the card--- the game runs at high on my system and mostly i dont have any problems.....

cheapest method buy u a used card on eGay...i only paid a 150 bucks on that card!

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunatly the cash is held up in the purchase. ie They refund me £60 to which I have to stump up further cash to get the best they have for £100 the 6800 le.  They did have a 528mb card, an ati x ????  but apparently it isn't as good as the 6800 le, however the two prices match.

It would be so simple if I go tell them, "here's your card back it's shit, give me my cash im off down the road" but that aint part of the deal because the card isnt faulty, it just isn't as good as I'd hoped.

Im very nervous about overclocking, this recent card I purchased that I want to exchange is the only one I have fitted so while I have good experience with pc software Im a complete idiot when it comes to hardware, or at least understanding fine details about it.

The 6600 LE is crappy.  Ive got the 6600 GT and the game runs smoothly on Med/High settings.  Its pretty cheap at Newegg.com compared to others.  If you have a big budget get the 7800 GT (AGP).

Stay away from the 6600le, it will make you wish for your old 9800pro.  I'd agree with the 6600gt as a good suggestion.  If you prefer ATI I'd go for the x1600pro.  Probably a little faster than the 6600gt, won't run as hot, and about the same price.  If I had $120-140 US to spend on an agp card the x1600pro is what I would buy.

In general more video ram does not equal better performance, only greater screen resolutions, so don't get hung up on a card because it "only" has 128 ram.
