Maybe I'm the only one, but I've found this deal with the stimulus packages really confusing. I'm doing research for my midterm paper in Economics, and I've found a proposal by Bush for 700bn, one by Obama for 869bn, another by Obama of 1.2tn - how many of these plans were put into motion? I keep finding headlines of different numbers, and they're all swimming around in my head, but I can't find one definite answer of how much government spending there was.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - and karma for those who can give me a source as proof.

$800 billion IIRC. So probably the $869bn. A quick Google seems to agree with me. A not especially reputable source, but a source nevertheless.

This is what I find confusing though: did Bush get his pushed through before Obama came into office with his two enourmous proposals, or did only Obama's proposals actually go into effect?

The numbers are billions of dollars.

I think you're confusing stimulus plans and budgets.

Obama had a separate $800-odd billion stimulus plan that was distinct from Bush's $700-odd billion financial markets bailout plan.

The $1.2 trillion is Obama's FY10 budget, I believe.

I'm looking for stimulus and bailout stuff. Didn't Obama have another bailout plan in the making?

There's been talk of another bailout/stimulus by some, but in just the past couple of days Geithner said he didn't think one was needed.
