In an Arizona case, administrators were worried about campus safety, while the student just felt humiliated.Reporting from Safford, Ariz. -- When Savana Redding, now 19, talks of what happened to her in eighth grade, it is clear that the painful memories linger.

She speaks of being embarrassed and fearful and of staying away from school for two months. And she recalls the "whispers" and "stares" from others in this small eastern Arizona mining town after she was strip-searched in the nurse's office because a vice principal suspected she might be hiding extra-strength ibuprofen in her underwear. If limits on searches are imposed, the school district warns, its ability to keep all drugs out of its schools would be reduced.

In this case, said school district lawyer Matthew Wright, the vice principal was concerned because one student had gotten seriously ill from taking unidentified pills."That was the driving force for him. If nothing had been done, and this happened to another kid, parents would have been outraged," Wright said. She first learned she was in trouble when Vice Principal Kerry Wilson entered math class one morning and told her to come with him to the office.

He was in search of white pills.
"He asked if he could search my backpack. I said, 'Sure,' " she recalled. When nothing was found, Wilson sent Savana to the nurse's office, where the nurse and an office assistant were told to "search her clothes" for the missing pills.Savana said she kept her head down, embarrassed and afraid she would cry. After removing her pink T-shirt and black stretch pants, she was told to pull her underwear to the side and to shake so any pills there could be dislodged.

It was "the most humiliating experience" of her young life, she said.

"We did not find any pills during our search of Savana," Wilson reported.

When her mother arrived at the school to pick her up, another student called out to her: "What are you going to do about them strip-searching Savana?"Upset and angry, April Redding said she marched to the principal's office, then to the superintendent's office nearby. Both denied at first knowing that a student had been strip-searched.

Anyone who strips searches a child or orders the strip search is a sex offender and should be made to register as such. They should be fired, jailed, don't pass go and don't collect your pension. This is just like pervert priest cases. But I guess if the priests claimed anal intrusion in search of advil then it would be justified.... Did I mention that this case has really pi$$ed me off.

When I hear about stuff like this it makes me want to choke the living $hit out of these people. I would say shooting the principal would be justified. GD pervert. At the very least, these $hitheads should be made to pay for civil damages out of their own pockets.

Too bad this case is going to this supreme court... I have no doubt that the a$$hole Scalia will think its alright and his retard puppet Thomas will follow right along -everytime there is  case where there is an individual being beat up under color of authority these retards say the mob mentality of beating up on a victim is A-OK. Perhaps the rest of the court will get it right.

If its serious detain the kid, get the parents, get the cops, get a warrant... the principal having someone fish around a child's privates is way off the reservation. No school official can have that kind of authority, you need checks and balances and oversight.

A friend of a friend once showed up drunk. Threw up in the toilets, drank the rest of his vodka and passed out on the bleachers in the gym.

Perhaps a ranting statement that's a little robust.

I would say the same thing whether its a school official, a police officer or other person who takes a kid and decides on their own that they are going to do a strip search. The power imbalance between an adult claiming authority and child it too great... acting on their own crosses the line and makes them a GD pedophile. Look at a kid charged with a crime, the cops can't even talk to the kid without the parents/lawyer there and this principal thinks he has the authority to search a childs privates?

With you being an adult, if you were at a univeristy or a school and the head administrator ordered you to under go a strip search, you would tell them to F-off or worse. If they were leveling a serious charge, then there would be further steps taken, perhaps requiring the policeand  a judicial warrant, needless to say that there would be further review before anything was done to you.

Since this is a child the default position should be that the child would say f-off and that requires further steps that would ensure checks and balances to protect the child. The default should not be that the child has no say... that's what makes this predation of a sexual nature. In any respect, the psycholgical harm to child is the same whether its the old pervert uncle, or this principal. This girl never returned to that school, clearly she felt victimized, clearly she was victimized. That's whats really got me mad on this one.

Unfortunately, that shit's not all that uncommon. The "zero tolerance" policy is completely irrational when it is extended to non-narcotic, prescribed, or OTC medications. They're supposedly trying to stop kids from taking/buying/selling illicit drugs--strip-searching some chick for her ibuprofen would seem to have nothing whatsoever to do with that goal.

Complete, utter bullshit IMHBCO.

lol in year 7 I had a girl sitting in front of me taking huge swigs from an "Oak" bottle. It looked really suspicious the way she was drinking it too, because it was always when the teachers back was turned.

Eventually he caught on and when asked her to hand him the bottle, she threw up all over the floor and then ran out of the room.

He picked up the bottle, smelt it, and said zomg bourbon and left to find the principal.

I'm pissed that my abo mates didn't used to do stuff like that but generally if they wanted to get on the piss/smoke weed they had the sense to not show up for school and a hiding.

Would have been awesome if some of them had, as they did skive off a fair bit to get shattered/high.
