Why would they? They are flush with tax money.

A good friend of mine last night was awakened at 2 A.M. by a repo guy. They told him that they had to take the vehicles, but that he could call in the morning, get paid up to be current and get them back. They cleaned out their belongings, except the R.V. had a ATV inside of it. " Don't worry, you can get it in the morning. "

He called the lender to get current, and they said no thank you, the three vehicles will be sold at auction and he will be billed for the difference. He was two months late. One car, a truck and a RV trailer. Now he can't get his atv back without a $248.00 fee, and an additional $48.00 per day in storage.

The fact is, these banks now need to have as many defaults as they can because that entitles them to more bailout money.

The system is breaking down. The politicians have given the banks too much power.
They have made public the risks while the profits stay private.

I have never seen so many bad things happen to so many good people. He is self employed, like me. HE was making 10k per month but the economy has seen that cut in half. There is no negotiating with the banks. All they are interested in is harvesting wealth.

By about September of this year, expect major news regarding the economy. As in, it will be much, much worse than it is now.

The cynic in me says your friend shouldn't have splashed out on so much using credit/loans, even if his company was sailing smooth at the time. I suppose you can't complain that much if the bank repo your stuff

Although I agree that the banks should be more lenient when it comes to these things during these times, I don't think anybody expects the banks to actually change, I know I don't

That ATV bit is gay, though, milking the situation and making the most they can out of it, bunch of bastards

I feel for the guy... my question is... Did they call him and warn him about the delinquency?  And did he respond to their calls... I agree the banks have no heart... but if he was paying on time... they couldn't do anything....

He claims they did not.

One thing people don't understand; we all try and plan for lean times. A 50% cut over 16 months is not lean times; it's a disaster.
My business is down 70%, minimum. Luckily for me I was wise enough to ditch all my employees before shit got real ugly. However, six more moths of this shit and I will lose my home and truck too.

The economy here in Seattle is horrible. I count my blessings everyday for having a good job. The unemployment rate here in Washington state is the highest it's ever been. My parents lost their house and had to move to Anchorage where the real estate market is still decent. I've seen so many businesses go down lately it's pathetic

Looks like the banks are flsuh with tax payers money and they must feel like its time to bring on the next credit crunch... get ready for higher consumer loan rates and credit card rates and lots of defaults.

And look at this guy Rattner... apparently caught in a pay to play scandal.

Obama's New "RAT"

We are in big trouble when the people setting policy are the same people who orcestrated the whole problem and have their thumbs in all the pies. These guys get picked because they know the industry that they are supposed to fix but its increasingly apparent that they are there to gain influence and cook the books for their business buddies. We just can't trust anyone who works in one of these industries to do what is right.

I am beginning to think that what we need are financial czars and car czars that come from the military or police enforcement. Put in someone who has taken an oathe to protect the country, someone who is smart and capable and who can learn quickly to fix these issues. Someone who will have the fortitude to ignore all the crooks out there.  Or even an academic who doesn't have ties to these crooks.

Something serious needs to be done or we are all screwed. If we can't get anything done while these banks are at their weakest, what kind of reforms are going to be possible once they start to take over and roll everyone into bankruptcy.

EDIT: I believe it was Cramer on CNBC who used to talk about being ostracised by the wall street crowd when he would start spilling the beans on these crooks.... we need people who aren't afraid of ostracism and whose careers are not dependant on future relations with these crooks.

Did Obama pick anyone who doesn't have a checkered past...lol?
I realize sleazy politicians existed before BO was in office... but he seems to be an overachiever for picking scumbags...

How about Colin Powell for Treasury secretary or better yet General of the Treasury.
OR
GEN David H. Petraeus as car czar.

These guys would be loyal to the country, not to a bunch of industry crooks.

Banks do not normally start the repo process at only 2 months.  They'd certainly be sending you legal notice informing you of their intentions.    Something like a "pay x by x date or else" letter and likely a phone call, too.  Otherwise if they send no notice, they won't have a leg to stand on if they're sued by their client.
