I know that vista is not ideal, but I do have windows XP that I can install it's just there for an OS. I have about $800-1100 dollars budget. I have an Antec 900 case, a coolmaster 750w power supply, 1 Liteon SATA DVD+/-RW, 1 500 GB HD that will go into this as well. for a monitor I have a 40" 1080p TV

you are missing a PSU & case.

And go with intel, they still rape AMD.

Don't buy an OS, you can download one free very easily.

Get an i7 920, much better than AMD atm.

If your budget can stretch, get another GTX260, or even one GTX295. If it can't stretch that far, GTX280 is nice.

Antec 900 is an ace case, if a bit expensive, and for a PSU ask Panzer.

No. Get an OS. If it's the only legal piece of sofware you're going to own, best be it the OS.

Seriously. Even though it's quite a hefty price, it's better than several re-installs. No cracked OS is ever perfect, however people make one out to be. Some people will have had no problems whilst others will have had many. The fact is, everything and anything can go wrong, and when it does, you want to be able to know that you can count on support, a fresh install from the same CD and backups.

Trust me. I have been through many an OS and I still have my trusty Vista 32 bit Home Premium. Legally bought.

ASUS Rampage II X58 would be my choice

For an AMD build stick to DDR2. If you're gonna use this as a HTPC without encoding duties, stick to a cheaper dual cores. If you're going to use this as more than a playback PC, get a quad core instead. A X4 940BE + a decent cooler will make for a lot of CPU power

However awesome linux may be for us "awesome dudes who know the internets real well", it's not cool for someone who just wants it to game and look at porn.

Sydney, regarding your last post : Yeah, I have had some relatively painless installations and operations of OSes, but I would still prefer to know that no matter what update, or what problem, I can count on a legal version of it. I've played around with my computer enough (lost a hell of a lot of sensitive data, important work and the sort) to know that there is no better feeling than knowing that no stupid illegal shit broke my computer again.

That's why I use Windows only for gaming, and Linux for everything else.

As for support, I find google and Linux forums to be

lots of more performance on CPU front.

if you are going to game, you really want SLi for that nice big monitor. If you don't play much you can get just one GTX 260.

Oh sorry didn't see the bottom of your post.

I predicted your case though Your PSU looks fine, that'll run an i7 and 2x260s easily. Make sure they're the core 216 ones though.

@Zimmer, do you really want to spend $100 for some piece of mind, and expect the product in mind to fail? Do you think something designed to fail is worth it?

Generally i'm a fan of Pirating acquiring things, but i'm with Zimmer, I always go legit OS (even if nothing else on my HDD is).

It just comes down to personal preference really, I'm prepared to pay the extra and have no issues, some may be prepared to risk issues for the saved cash.

Tbh I "acquired" my Vista two years ago, my updates still work and no issues at all. You need to find a quality one of course, there are many crap releases out.

Antec 900 is a bitch for nice cable management. Many have taken their dremels and significantly improved the cable management.

awesome case mods for the 900 there. I hadn't even thought of something as simple as painting the inside black, flipping the HD Bay around etc. panzer is quickly becoming my PC hero
