i have an xfx 7800gt, currently it is running on pci express at 8x, however does it not have support for 16x? if so how can i fix this? the motherboard is capable of running it at 16x
What motherboard are you using?

it is an abit an8 sli fatal1ty. the mobo is capable of running sli but is currently only running the single 7800gt
Different mobos have different ways to set them up for SLi (my mobo, for instance, you have to rotate a chip and reinsert it to activate dual card mode). Other mobos have jumper settings, or bios settings. If, for some reason, your mobo is set to run in SLi dual card mode, but you are only running one card.....this may be the reason.......though in all honesty, I really don't know, just venturing a guess.

my mobo also has the rotatable chip like yours and yes it is definately in the correct way. is the 7800gt capable of running at 16x or is 8x the normal speed

Make sure that your SLI Switch card (between the PCI-X16 slots) is set to read normal. You can refer to the motherboard user manual on page 1-3 for a diagram if needed.
funny thing though is that you probably wont even notice a difference when you get it running in x16 mode...
Now it could be your motheroard too I have bought some that are bad, if what AGWOOD said dosen't work return the MOBO, or buy a ASUS they are awsome.(A8N32 Recommended)
