Sadly, there isn't much to do about the mentally unstable if you are in the business of renting firearms.  You cannot prevent what you don't know about.

Now, I have heard plans like denoting the legal ability to purchase firearms on one's driver's license (yes if not a felon, mentally ill, or prohibited by the Lautenberg amendment, etc).  That might work, but the specifics may get fuzzy.

There are gun ranges in the UK, so it's perfectly possible for something similar to happen here too.

Great, now all the anti-gun nit-wits will come out of the closet.  Why couldn't she just have stabbed him to death with a knife as he slept so the anti-sleeping/knife returds could suggest banning kitchen utensils.

Perhaps, ranges could use that NICS system you mentioned in that other thread.

An attorney for the firing range has claimed allegation is not true, one report said. But the claim, in addition to her history of mental illness, immediately raised questions as to how she had been able to rent a gun there.

Moore also had two convictions for driving under the influence, which should have disqualified her from handling weapons.
If you want to blame someone other than the mother herself, blame the idiots at the range who allowed her to get a hold of a firearm.

yea i agree.
definitely, if he had seen it coming he probably could have saved himself, not necessarily , but it would be more likely since he also had a gun.

That's a possibility.  I think there could be a much better system than the NICS.  I've heard the idea of a mark on a driver's license to denote "prohibited person" status WRT firearms.  That might be an idea to look into.

The video was crap, the shooting range needs to invest in better CCTV to be honest.

Didn't even get to see the bullet pass through his skull. What's the point in these novelty 'Oooh omg' stories if there's nothing to actually Ooh at? Psht.

How can I be sensitive to some idiot woman that I've never met or known? A lot of people in this world... I can't shed a tear for every degenerate mother that gets her hand on a gun and feels compelled to wipe out her family line with a quick squeeze and a "Good day, sir".

(Just to put a rest to the grammar - and to the person who has grammar from 'olde Englishe' [yes I know] - "Son's head" means the head that belongs to the son. Modern society has given it a double meaning, depending on the context for "Son's" to mean 'son is' like "My son's going to the store". I'm not entirely sure why there is much a disagreement about this.)

This story is just sad and, I hate to say it (not really), but is another reason I'm against religion and another reason that gives me a right to say "Religion is a fucking joke". Anyways, yes, unfortunately this is one of the kinder ways to kill her son. Instant death and he didn't see it coming. Better than any of the other ways posted before; especially the article where the mom lit her kids on fire. Much worse.

I'm so confused when it comes to grammar sometimes.

Ok sure but what could have prevented this somehow? Be creative.

Good idea...  Honestly, I don't know why they haven't done that already.
