I used to be part of a CoD 1 clan believe it or not, including the obligatory rifle only persona, although when it came to the actual "matches" most of them were all-guns allowed (everyone loved mp_harbor, but mp_pavlov was my fav). It went onto CoD 2, I actually became quite damn good at the game. But CoD 2 was really seen as a console bastardisation of the CoD 1 game, especially because how UO made things quite good. Things like lack of recoil/regenerative health/easy to use thick cross-hairs that don't expand when you move the mouse around (a patch changed that, though)
CoD 2 was clearly a game that was developed on the 360 with the PC being an afterthought, although later on patches helped it abit, there was quite alot of "action" on the IW forums to pressure them into fixing the game. Quite alot of furore
But at the end of the day, CoD 2 was still a good game and fun in MP. Then BF2 took over my PC gaming life (and Red Orchestra), then I got CoD 4 and things were looking nice (after all that Project Reality and RO, CoD 4 pissed me off but Hardcore mode saved the day)
Then my computer has problems and now I have a PS3, yeah yeah fuck you all, my PC gaming days will come back with vengeance some other time
/Life Story
