Wall across entire border. Drones and Jets in ready positions. Army base, supplemented by short "tours" by National Guard. Border Patrol increased budget 50%, increase manpower 30%. Give army personnel the right to arrest anyone attempting to cross, however with standard rules of engagement applying. Several Navy (Or Coast guard or whatever is more appropriate) patrol boats around the coast.

DO IT NAO. SRSLY. NAO IS DA TIME

UAV's and recon flights overheard may help. Good practice for Chopper pilots to do night ops as well. Put an active base near several areas of the border and it will be win.

Maybe the way to get rid of illegals is to tank the economy.
Jon and Ken are gathering money to buy illegals one way bus tickets back to mexico. And mind you, this is a area of some 20 million people, not counting them.

I remember way back when I was 19, me and some pals went to Tijuana to The Avenidas of De Revolutione where we had good food and shitty margaritas, hurump, just like most L.A. eats We parked near the border and walked across. I came back with a few trinkets, including a cheap switchblade.
Four years ago I was going across the commercial crossing East of La Mesa every now and then for business.

I stopped going, even though I love the food and relate well to the people. I had the feeling I had eyes on me. I got hit up one day coming back in for a bribe by a U.S. customs agent, and the whole experience kind of sickened me. Yes there is a border, but it is as much a agreed upon thing as it is a barrier. Tijuanna is a shit hole of almost Somali scope.
I remember looking at tin roofed cinder block hovels with tattered electrical wires and rusted antennas on a hill, boys with dogs walking along the chain link fence and dirt road separating the suppurating wound to our South from the anal cancer ridden body that is California and thinking; God has blessed America.

I could actually see a unification of our nations, but it must be by vote and not by default.

So why has the US govt done nothing, and continues to do nothing?
When it comes to trivial, irrelevant Cuba the full force of isolation and sanctions is brought to bear, with Mexico there is an open door.
There must be a reason.

it's a hot potato... all the politicians are worried about is being re-elected... if this gets worse and the people get really angry...look for every politician on both sides to stand up and ask how come nothing has been done... beyond predictable...

Didn't the Mexicans learn anything from the American "war on drugs"? Total failure.
Actually, there was an article in the Washington Post yesterday about how successful Colombia has been in reducing coca production, pushing back the FARC, and strengthening regional government.

Doesn't sound like total failure...unless one takes a short view. It took well over 10 years and multiple strategy changes to get to this point.

Mexico's biggest problem in combating the drug cartels is massive corruption at all levels of government there...much like Colombia faced.

Mexico isn't Communist.

I'm not saying it makes sense, but that's why.

I don't believe it is socialist.

Clear danger? Don't see how.

Financial drain? Only by encouraging its citizens to emigrate to the US illegally. Otherwise, no. Certainly not a drain WRT border protection...hence the problem.

None of those are a clear danger to our national security. They are certainly a pain in the ass, but they are not a "clear danger".

Since we spend hardly anything (relatively) on the problem, it's hardly a drain on the taxpayer.

And there's no such thing as free medical treatment in the US. People who aren't from the US have said so on these very forums.
