As load do you mean Prime95 with 8 threads?

Last time I ran IBT which is based on linpack, It understood THIS much of HT and didn't stress the CPU 100%.

Basically i7 was taking a walk in park...

Yes. I also found out that if P95 keeps temps at 65C IntelBurnTest gives temperatures between 62C and 68C and when P95 keeps cores at 100% load IBT gives 30% - 100% load.

Interesting...
I have much lower vcore for 3.8ghz. 1.264Vcore, 1.3V QPI and 1.64V DRAMBUS. Temps are around same area tho. I have my Noctua fans at silent so the 100% load temps are ~75-77c after 15H of prime95.

edit: makes sense. Noticed you got two fans with double the airflow than noctua at low volt.

I got the feeling that on x58 there is too many voltage settings to adjust and every MB manufacturer names them differently. My VCore is 1,4V; Cpu vtt a.k.a. uncore 1,4V; Ram 1,65V; QPI pll 1,2V; IOH VCore 1,1V. With these settings I get 124 BSOD (what according to EVGA forums means too low cpu vtt) when BCLK is set to 196. With the DRAMBUS do you mean Ram voltage or uncore?

ram voltage. my CPU PLL is 1.84V and IOH 1.12V

Try upping the QPI voltage. i7 loves it.

I read that increasing cpu pll doesn't give any benefits but I'll try increasing QPI pll and IOH voltage before I pump over 1,4V to my cpu vtt. It would be good if there was a tempertature sensor in the uncore too.

Looks like there is a clock wall after 195-196 BCLK. I got 198 to somewhat stable level and then I tried 200 but it gave BSOD pretty soon I started Prime95. My voltages were VCore 1,51; vtt 1,5: pll 1,875; IOH VCore 1,45; QPI 1,45; Ram 1,65 and cores went right up to 80C after starting P95. I am not going to risk giving more voltage so looks like i have to settle down to to 190-195 BCLK and 20 or 21 multiplier.

is this thread still alive?  i thought there was a V2 but i couldn't find it.
i think we should separate C2Ds from C2Qs from i7s.

Spoiler (highlight to read):
just trying to gain leverage for my upcoming Q9550.  trading my Q9300 + $30 for it.

that being said, just curious: what's the FSB wall on a Q9550 and a P5E (Rampage Formula BIOS)?  around 445, 450-ish?

What FSB wall? It is unique to hardware and ur P5E sucks hard if it has FSB wall. Nforce piece of shits often have it.

My Q6600 G0 did 500FSB on my P5E. After that my ram couldn't stay with me and limited the OC.

idk, i seemed to hit one with my Q9300.  more NB V, more Vcore, i just couldn't go much higher than 3.3 GHz.  i think it's because of the 45nm quad limitations though, not the MB itself.  either that or the RAM, although i think the RAM is fairly solid.  at 500FSB with the Q6600, was the RAM running underclocked or overclocked and at what divider?

overclocked at 1:1
I had 800mhz ram and they didn't get much over 1000mhz with reasonable volts.

reasonable meaning how much over stock?  i've never overvolted RAM before; always kept it at stock 2.1V.

Finally got a quad core, gave my E8400 to my brother.
Funny though, it took my Q9650 the same voltage. I was in windows at about 1.28, tryin to get stress stable now.

Yep D0 stepping OC like nuts. I jsut put some random vcore and QPI voltage and random BCLK and booted up right away so there would be a lot room for improvement. Of course not for prime95, TDP is way too high. And I did have HT on which is pretty toasty too.
