Ya, then you fail at home de-fence.  I would have killed you by now.

Both firearms should be loaded at all times in the future, here ends the lecture.

This. You basically have a club, which is basically a baseball bat.

I have a small barrel drop 12.5 baseball bat next to my bed.

For those who don't play baseball: It's long, and light as fuck, and if I swing it at you, it's gonna hurt.

That's good enough for me.

Like I said. Compensation.

I like this guy. He knows things.

Then again, my county has one of the best and highest paid (no, one doesn't cause the other) police forces in the US and a very low crime rate. So I'm even better off.

I sleep with a knife in my desk drawer like 2 inches from my head, but not for that reason, it just happens to be there. I also have a walther ppk under my pillow at all times.

Obviously if you point a weapon at someone they may or may not think it is loaded, but the amount of adrenaline pointing a weapon at someone creates will be enough to make them think it is loaded.

Orrrrrrr...if the person invading your home has a weapon as well, they'd be more inclined to shoot.

That's a gamble. Problem: Some may not react as logically as you predict, these are criminals (mental health implications). Some may call your bluff, you may have a gun but will you shoot someone? Solution: Warning shot. Problem Deux: Not loaded.

Note: If you're going to have a gun, have it loaded.

My GTA IV bat would do quite fine against an intruder. Sneak up on 'em and yell "I'LL RIP YOUR FUCKING HEART OUT" as Niko does.

Don't see the need to have any weapon near my bed... got a cricket bat in my room somewhere but I've had one encounter with a robber (when i lived in a worse area) and as soon as he saw me he ran away... occupied houses very very rarely get robbed here.

Why the hell do you have a gun next to your bed if you live in suburban NY?
Sounds like bullshit tbh, especially with the I keep them unloaded part.

I have a lock on the door, which is usually unblocked and sometimes open. I have locks on the windows which are usually open fully. I have a guard cat that usually runs away and hides from strangers (and thunder) and I have a pillow by my bed.... I feel just fine.

My dad keeps his Kimber CDP .45 on his night stand loaded with hollow point +P rounds. As if .45 wasn't enough already.

Prolly won't get a handgun till I turn 21 and can take the CWP test. My 24in AR is just too tough to handle in doors.

you confuse paranoia with preparedness.  you rely on the goodness of humanity and civil servants, i rely on .45" diameter chunks of lead and copper.  no real difference.

Do you live in a bomb shelter, do you wear a chemical suit or a gas mask, do you wear a bullet proof vest, do you 'prepare' for a meteor to hit earth for a major environmental disaster?
If you did you'd be considered paranoid, but each one may be needed at some point should a particular event take place and for you to believe that it is a necessary paranoia to have a gun close by, makes America a horrible place to live.
