I am flying the family to Yosemite for a day. Any free advice on what not to miss, and what is not worth doing? Only going to be there a day so time is short.

I hear El Capitan is really nice from those that've been there.

the whole valley is awsome.  you need to camp for at least a long weekend to take it all in.

Wish we could, it was a last minute thing and we gotta get back to work. We will fly in one day, spend 1 dat there and fly home on day 3. If nothing else we will be able to scout it out to see if we wanna spend an entire vacation there.

Only one day?

Well if the weather is nice and if it's open you should do the raft thing down the center of the valley. You rent this inflatable raft and spend a few hours drifting down the center of the valley (gorgeous) on a small river. It's great because you can go as fast or as slow as you like and you can get out to eat lunch along the shore whenever/wherever you see fit.

I'm not sure how much you'll be able to fit in but you should also make the short hikes back into the waterfalls (they're a little ways off the main road). Half Dome is a little bit more of a walk but still just as cool. Unfortunately I never got to hike to El Capitan although I'm sure that's worth it as well.

Have fun man, Yosemite Valley is up there with some of the coolest places I've ever been.

Can the raft thing accomodate 2 pre-teen boys, or is it mainly for a more mature crowd? Great info thank you.

the last time i was there on the last day we picniced in a section of woods that had a light brushfire run through it the previous season.  it was a different aspect of nature, you don't usually see.

We did stuff like this before I got laid off and went over seas, for me, so far (not including Germany), the Seattle area and the cascades, and Acadia National park in Maine are the most scenic and memerable. Short weekend trips are what we do most of, do a lot in a short amount of time and still have money left for the next weekend getaway.

As far as Germany/Austria, hands down the most unbelievable scenic place on earth I have ever been. Can not wait for my return to Europe to take more in.
