XP key. Need to switch to my legit key.

Basically I installed XP with a version that didnt like the serial key I had.

So I used a pirated key.

But I do have a legitamate key and all I want to do is switch it with the pirate one.

I have seen software, but none that are free.

Are there any you know of?

Wait, so you want switch a non-legit key with a legit one?

I'd suggest a re-format, start clean.

It was a format, but the copy of xp I am installing with doesnt like my legit key, so I have to use the pirate one.

I got the key from my college. They had a deal to provide free software.

If the key is legit then you should be able to reformat fine with it

Well I have tried. And it didnt work. My friend has a key from from the same college his does not work with this xp either.

But we have both managed installs before using these keys. Just using a different XP.

I know that this key is 100% correct.
It is probably for Home, or media center and you have professional edition.

you also have to make sure the key is for the exact same type of XP. if you have an oem xp home sp2 key then you need an oem xp sp2 cd. retail key / retail cd ect.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Magicaljellybean. you can change keys with that.
