Or the PRoC, People's Republic of Commiefornia.

Seriously, the Californian Gov't needs to get some balls and take bigger steps to stop the recession AND climate change, not this small ass shit. They need to go nuclear, France style.

On a lighter note, imagine what would happen to all the limos and gov't SUVs... White party van anyone?

Forget the myth about black paint and hot cars .. from over two years ago.

"The exterior of a black car gets hotter than a white car, but it does not get transferred to the interior any more than in a white car," he said. "Try this experiment: Take your hand and put it on the headliner. It's not very hot. The energy that heats up the inside of a car comes through the windows."

It's a fact that black gets hot sooner and more than whiter colors, forcing people to use more energy in order to cool down their car. Since global warming is getting serious year by year, every compromise is important in order to reduce CO2 emission.
Reading is good...
People don't care if the OUTSIDE of their car is hot.
if you dont have a super heat resistor there will be a balance between interior and outside of car. black completely absorbs light and as a result heat of light. thats why its black.

Now that I'm older and slightly wiser, please let me amend two decades of advice. Buy a government-issue white vehicle and get the windows tinted dark. It might not look great, but it will be cool in a real-world way.

If California was more serious about controlling pollution, they'd regulate emissions from power plants more rather than harass drivers and car dealerships.

Not surprisingly, power companies have equally as much lobbying power as they have energy.
of course you are right. I made that comment regardless of current government's attitude.

I get here crazy when bus transport companies become an obstacle in front of enhancement of railways.

That is true, but how much heat is really transfered to the interior of a car?...and how much energy is really wasted by cooling a car by that extra bit?

Finally common sense is seeping back in.

This is the real debate.  How much of a difference does it really make.  I bet not much, especially with the heat loss while actually driving, seeing how the air movement over the metal surface will greatly reduce the amount heat available to be transfered to the interior thorugh the insulation and headliner.

An experiment should be made. Whatever, banning black cars is the last thing to check in to-do list. USA should sign Kyoto protocol first.
