Look at the quagmire that has happened in Iraq with small force of insurgents.  There are over 80 million gun owners in the United States.

You're forgetting that any tyrannical take-over in the USA would probably start with popular support or some sort of catastrophic event to make it seem legitimate.

It wouldn't be as simple as an invading force of soldiers showing up for you guys to take pot-shots at while throwing back a few beers. There'd be some sort of prepratory phase before takeover involving a few debilitating, highly contagious but easily curable diseases being released into the public via water-supplies/crop dusting etc via a false flag operation. and the activation of the ol' FEMA 'disaster' camps for the easy removal of possible 'accidental guerrillas' from the population. With the loyal segments of the military vaccinated against the diseases and a purge in the style of the Night of the Long Knives it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility. Especially if it was presented in a convenient package for the sheeple to accept as the only way to continue living the good life.

Taking out the hard core of people who seriously considered and prepared for an event like that wouldn't take long with black bag style rendition teams from the CIA being deployed internally to capture them during the aforementioned preparatory phase. After the take-over was in action/complete the deployment of ARSOC/USSOCOM or JSOC forces to eliminate any pockets of trouble would probably be all that's needed.
