My true feelings are that a poor country with a ton of its own problems shouldn't be blaming white people for their ills.  They should blame greed.

If the majority of Wall Street was black, then you could say that black people caused the crisis, but it would be ridiculous to state it as such, because it wasn't the fact that they're black that caused the crisis.

I believe you are mistaking poverty in brazil for brazil being a poor country.  Its not.  Brazil is one of a handfull of nations that has a strengthening economy that will some day be on par with the United States.  Same as mexico.  these countries have a lot of wealth.


the only thing I could agree with your ingorant remarks about latin america is the lack of a political culture (or one worth anything)  corruption is rampant.  you could thank spain for that.  The political culture instilled in latin america resembles that of the 19 century aristrocacy in many places.   


exactly how many wars has latin america "lost" to other nations for you to make such a retarded statement.  I could think of 2 or three within the last 150 years maybe.  Most of latin americas military history involves fighting each other.

So wealth disparity and standard of living mean nothing to you?  Wealth is a relative thing, but relative to the First World, Brazil is fucking poor.  Sure, they're wealthier than Guatemala, but that's not saying much.

And yes, they're growing in power, but that doesn't mean they aren't poor.  China is growing in power too, but they're still poor.

Sure, blame Spain.  That's all fine and well, but Portugal was the country that ran Brazil.

Yes, aristocracies from Spain and Portugal affected the original systems of these countries, but over time, the blame can be placed squarely on the leadership of these countries themselves.  It's like completely blaming Africa's shitty situation on Europe.

Education? Not everyone's a Harvard graduate but all of my cousins (who live in well-developed cities like Santiago de Chile and Buenos Aires) are pretty well educated. Sanitation? Once again, Santiago and Buenos Aires are just as modern as, say, DC. As for safety, well, I feel safer walking on the streets at night in Santiago than in some parts of DC.

You should buy Rosetta Stone and save up some cash and visit a place like Santiago, Buenos Aires, or Punta del Este. You'll find that it's not some underdeveloped hell hole.

I will agree that there are major corruption problems in government for the most part though.

The norm for schooling in Latin America varies widely depending on income.  If your family is wealthy, their schooling might be closer (or in some cases, better than) to our level of quality.

Sanitation is most definitely a concern for visitors from First World countries.  It's very common for Americans to get diarrhea or other digestive diseases from drinking the water in various Latin American countries -- even in the bigger, more prosperous cities.  The reasoning for this is partially because of lower water treatment standards and local bacteria that outsiders are not used to.

If you're a local in Rio, Sao Paulo, etc., you've probably built up a resistance to the bacteria in the water.  This is why the average Brazilian doesn't get sick from drinking tap water, but the average American visiting often does.

I hear ya.  I admit I've never been to Brazil or any other Latin American country, but....  South America was a large part of the focus of my economics and sociology studies in college.  Also, I know quite a few people that have traveled to Brazil, and they've shared some of their experiences with me.
