...its a precursor to a much larger earthquake or eruption, or its energy being dispursed so we don't have a large earthquake.

Latest Earthquakes in the United States - Last 7 days

Now the earthquakes in Alaska make sense because they are having an erruption atm, but the number of earthquakes in Southern California are worrisome (since I live there).

Start preparing now if you already haven't I guess. Doesn't seismic activity occur on the faults daily anyways? Ted will tell you the score.

Oh and I have to:

places like the san andreas fault are always always seeing activity, so anything below maybe 2 is probably ok. Without having info on previous timespans this doesn't say much. But say for example if this marks an clear increase from the 'norm', then yeah seismologists are probably getting interested.

And even though thats 4chan, thats pretty funny.

It means the San Andreas might well blow, killing thousands and causing massive damage.

Lucky me!
I live about 80 miles from the Salton Sea where the clusters are right now.

General question, how many died in the last quake? A relative of ours lives out there, and he was near that massive road bridge in SF (not the G.Gate) when it collapsed onto its lower levels. Scary shit.

Still, i'd rather be sat on a stick n slip boundary than a destructive convergence.

Not that many die on average.

But, the big one hasn't hit. Many areas around fault zone are developed now. Banning and Moreno Valley are basically on the fault.

The potential for destruction is extreme.

If the big one hit now I believe that might put our system over the edge.

Who knows.

We also have the real potential of a volcano waking up near Lake Tahoe.

A massive quake somewhere in the united states would really hurt the economy but if the government were to pour a huge amount of resources to rebuilding and such we could stimulate the economy.

Most of those are around a 1-2 on the Richter over the last week - nothing out of the ordinary.

I hope it means there are aliens digging through the ground and coming to take over the earth.  Then we can enlist the help of Reba McEntire and Kevin Bacon!

pfft. clusters are srs business.
Looking at the map the majority of the San Andreas is heating up.

people ignore that whole " be preparred " thing.

Clusters on the SA are nothing new, it's one of the most tectonically active areas in the world.

If you were getting clusters on a pretty dormant tract, or miles away from any plate boundaries than that would indicate something's going on. On a fault like this for starters, you most likely won't get any real warning of a slip, think of how quickly a ruler snaps; you bend it, bend it and bend it, and suddenly it goes.

sigh...
to the left of the water is the San Andreas. Where the cluster is happening, in the Salton Sea is somewhat removed from the big known faults.

https://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsus/Maps/US2/32.34.-117.-115.gif

They are happening about one mile below the surface.

The only way this could be THE BIG ONE is if all the surrounding faults went at the same time.

SA is the main fault, there's tons of connected stress points in the same area

They all generally experience the same movements due to their proximity. To be fair, i think you're due a 6+ event sometime in the next 6 or so years, but i doubt this is the precursor to that.
