"Striking French workers for U.S. manufacturer 3M held their boss hostage amid labor talks Wednesday at a plant south of Paris, as anger over layoffs and cutbacks mounted around the country."

"In France, it is not unheard-of for striking workers to hold company executives as a way of winning concessions from management. The hostages are almost never injured. A similar situation ended peacefully earlier this month at Sony's French facilities."

and my favorite part of the story:

"Vandals attacked the home and car of the former head of the Royal Bank of Scotland, smashing windows early Wednesday at the house of the ex-CEO who resigned in disgrace but walked out with an annual pension of about 700,000 pounds ($1.2 million).

Three windows were smashed at Fred Goodwin's sandstone Victorian house in one of Edinburgh's wealthy suburbs. The rear window of a black Mercedes S600 car parked in the driveway was also smashed."

Say what you want about the euros, but they know how to make the "ruling class" know that they are pissed off..  Completly the opposite of the americans (and canadians) who just like to sit there and not move while they are being economically raped.

Go euros, burn them all and show the world what is the true power of the people.

Depend what kind of violence.   The american revolution was a violent one.. and it solved a lot of problems..  the French revolution too..

Sometimes, violence is needed as a LAST resort.. and imo we are heading toward a clash between the ruling class and us ordinary people.

You have to say thanks to your ancestors for not thinking like you because you would still be under british rule if it was the case.

Btw I not saying go trash the house of some CEO of AIG, all am saying is at least there is some kind of reactions over there.. and i think that it is a good thing.. a bad reaction is better than no reaction at all..  And they didnt kill anybody..

Did you vote for the bailouts?

Indirectly if my representative voted for the bailout.

I love anarchy.  It's the best way to get people behind the same cause.  How about you?

I'm all for needless violence and destruction but it seems something like holding your boss hostage is just counter productive to getting more benefits.

So even if your representative received tons of letters and phone call saying that a huge majority of the people are against the bailouts, you still agree with his decision?

Now if you are for the bailouts, i can understand but if you are against it, how can you call that democracy when the elected officials do not listen to the people?

Anarchy is not only when people destroy properties and that it is free for all in the streets..  there is also the economical anarchy..  When the governement start bailing out failed businesses, giving away tax payers money while not having a clue where the money is going.  When a private bank (the fed) have the futur of your country in their hands..  i call that anarchy..  there is no more rules.

The french are notorious when it comes to protests and strikes, and standing up for their rights they are willing to do whatever it takes ...

I admire their guts but not always their methods ... they hold their electives accountable for what they promise during elections and makes sure they keep the same promises, you gotta have balls to be a french politician

sounds like a mix of machiavelli and marx

btw, the french are very special when it comes to striking, you can't compare any of the other european countries to their special "strike culture" in terms of quantity and quality

Wow, the French took a hostage?! For what, to keep someone handy for surrender when the heat was turned up?

You are basically saying that Euros are ruled by a mob mentality.  Euros are not ruled by the mob.

You also believe that a mob mentality is actually a democracy.  It's not a democracy, it's called anarchy when a few people decide to take things in their own hands.

You believe that there is a possibility that a handful of protestors actually would make a difference in Europe.  They do not.

You believe that companies and their management is the ruling class.  They are powerful but equally as powerful as the people...why?  Because people are the company.  The ruling class?  All the countries mentioned (even the US btw) are some sort of democracy.

You brought up the bailout.  Now, prove the link to European hostage takers.  What are the similarities?  One has to do with the government attempting to rectify a situation, but it's an imperfect solution.  Why?  It's a little more complex then tossing a brick at a CEO's BMW.  So what are the similarities?

Did I directly vote on the bailout?  Whadda ya think Cap'n Obvioius?

Just as obvious as: do you think that by taking an insignificant event, generalizing it to all of Europe, then telling American's "this is how it should be done", is suddenly going to make this page 2 news item the Tianmen Square of 2009 that everyone should rally around?

Instead of redirecting your shitty hypothesis, how about defending your point?

Start with defending the two topics in this thread:
1) violence solves everything
2) rioting is a form of democracy

What you are witnessing right now in the US is exactly that.. a few people of the ruling elite taking things into their own hands by stealing the taxpayers money and giving it to a bunch of failed businesses or buying back toxic assets. You seem to think that if the people not following the rules are part of the elites, it is not called anarchy ..  You have too much faith in your own government.

Pug wrote:

Never said that it could make a difference.. I just commend them for at least doing something.. the hostage taking crap is common in Europe.. they are not going to behead him for christ's sake.

Yes people are the company.. tell that to the millions of workers who got shafted when their managements decided to outsource their job to shitholes like India and China.. And guess what? The ruling class even give them tax breaks for doing so..  Don't you start to see a patern here?

No similarities but you need to realize that people elected in offices and management of big banks and other big companies are part of the same family.. they all work for each other..   yes, even your messiah Mr Obama..

1) Never said that.. but inaction is sometime worst than doing something..
2) One of your founding fathers or maybe Lincoln i don't remember said something like that:

The governement must be afraid of the people, not the other way around.

Ok he probably didnt say it like that but you know what i mean...ill look into the exact quote..

Maybe the guy was Ron Paul, a congressman from Texas who's being trying for years to warn us all about that economic madness!
