I've been working for a guy who just bought five houses in historical Old Towne Orange. He paid cash for the houses and all the work that is being done to remodel them.

Some things he has said about this economy really kind if tick me off. His girlfriend is a real sweet girl with large fake boobs and a perfect ass, she is also wealthy.

I tell you what, they may have lost money in investments over the last year, but half of 30 million is still rich.

They see nothing but dollar signs in all the foreclosed homes. They buy struggling businesses when the owners are on their knees knowing they can pick up the goods cheap and weather the storm and float the costs until things get back to normal.

They also mock Obamas threats of tax increases on their companies, because they control the price of the goods they sell.

All the young bright eyed socialist need to get it through their thick skulls, the government is saying they are going to stick it to the companies, but taxes are just part of the cost of doing business.

Big companies calculate all costs associated with doing business, tack on 30 percent profit margin and have a selling cost.

The corporations will not see the tax increases; you will.
And the rich mock you as you all get outraged.

Taxes aren't being increased to 'stick it to the companies'. Taxes are being increased to service gargantuan national debt and a widening gulf between incomings and outgoings, a gulf that is being exacerbated during this prolonged and sharp downturn (and downturns often lead to an increased need to spend as a nation becomes destitute). Taxes MUST rise. People need to give up their delusion that taxes cannot and must not rise but must always fall. They go up AND down depending on circumstance.

Downturns are like gold dust to the landed classes. They can continue their monopolization of our nations economies. Khodorkovsky got nailed in Russia for his greed and opportunism, in the west we laud these characters as 'success stories', irrespective of how these people came to accrue their wealth (hard work/talent/skill, speculation, inheritance, etc.).

You missed importing luxury German cars tax-free with state sponsorship (Berezovsky).

I wish I was cashed up right now. Gotta convince the bank some how that they should lend me a few million to buy a street in Sydney.

I have cash but I'm waiting. I still expect something earth-shattering to come out of the woodwork with respect to the global economy. I will only invest when things have been steadily rising again for several months.

That's somewhat of a myth actually.

Demand determines prices more than taxation.

If the demand for a product is inelastic, then a company can increase prices to reflect increased taxation.  If the demand is elastic, then they can't raise prices much or they'll lose a lot of consumers.

So honestly, it depends more on the industry involved than the actual rise in taxation.

Price elasticity of demand is typically ignored by a lot of surface-level discussions mentioned by supply siders.

ATG is shaking his fist. I can just picture it now.

Rich people buying homes is a good thing. You need that cash flow moving. It's a trickle down effect (which unfortunately is the rich pissing in everyone else's pockets).

I don't agree with it, but the rich people seeing bargains and going spend happy is a good thing. If they are rich and keep all the money there is no chance for the rest of us to get some.

You now working for the guy is proof of this.

Maybe, and they are nothing more than a cash source to me; so I use them too.  As long as I make a living and conduct my life in the best manner I am able, I could really give a fuck less how others choose to view me.

Also, I find it odd for you to bitch about them investing money in this economy, and (not so incidently) employing folks like you.  Yes, they are taking advantage of the forecloser 'epidemic' that has plagued your state (it is not nearly so bad here in Texas, so no 'gloom and doom' from me), and they are actually doing a pretty good part in turning things around.  Okay, they may be utter pricks, but that is more of a personality problem than just because they are rich.  I think your oint of view may be skewed due to the nature of the state you live in.  I mean, Orange County, California?  Leave the state and join the real America!

Okay, they are pricks.  I will grant you that.  However, I have to deal with rich pricks and poor pricks.  Being an asshole is not an exclusive trait of being rich.  I get more pissy at the welfare people I have to take care of that bitch and moan about what they 'deserve' or have a 'right' to, just for breathing the air.  I absoluty dispise whenever I go into Section 8 housing, and see 3 jobless adults in the house, while their 4 kids don't have shoes that fit, but they are watching a big screen HDTV, and their mother is lying in her own filth while none of those 'adults' seem to give a damn except how it affects them and their ability to enjoy their show.

There are lots of assholes in the world.  If they have something you need (like money), you weigh the importance of what you want from them to how much of a pain it is to deal with them.  You either put up with it or walk.

wealthy people live in their own reality.  It's always been like that.

and once you're in the club and you get the connections, you're set.  they set up retention bonuses for each other.  they own politicians or they become politicians.  this aig stuff is nothing more than a rare glimpse into their reality of perpetuated wealth.

The best part?

If they fuck up an experiment, change to the system or a new idea in keeping rich people rich, we wear the costs. Yay!

So the experiment with giving everybody that wanted a house... regardless of their ability to pay it back didn't work....
and wealthy people are taking advantage of cheaper houses... and you're mad at them?   Wouldn't you buy as much as you could if you could?
It's not a crime to be rich... well not yet anyway...lol

If anyone says they wouldn't buy houses for investments if you were wealthy.. you are kidding yourself...  Or maybe we could give the houses back to the people that walked away from them... house flippers and unqualified buyers and see how that works out... and i am not talking about the people that were qualified and pay their mortgages even though their house is worth half of what it was a year or so ago because of said unqualified and house flippers....

Smart people can iron out the peaks and troughs of the financial cycles.
Save when the going is good.
Invest when the going is bad.
Dumb people do the reverse, hard luck to them.
