Just watched this last night, and I quite enjoyed it. It wasn't the anti-Bush movie I was expecting, which was good IMO. It portrayed Bush in a fairly good light I felt, and seemed to be a lot more critical of people like Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz. I found it interesting to learn a little about Bush's past; for example I didn't realise just how late he got into politics. Anyone else seen it, especially Bush fans? Did you like it or is it just the tree hugging lefty in me?

Oh yeah, he's in it. As is Cheney, it definitely portrays him as being a driving force behind a lot of the bad ideas the Bush admin had.

EDIT: All the major players in the Bush government are in it, with people like Rice and Powell being the voice of reason, and well, pretty much everyone else going along with Cheney and Rove.

Sounds very good, I'll go chase it up. Cheers.

It was good......but I would not add it to my collection so to speak.  It's not one of those movies I could watch over and over again.

The actor played the role of Bush with excellence. The movie was too short to tell the whole story though.

I didn't think it was that great. Thandie Newton did a good job at playing Condi Rice though and Josh Brolin was pretty much spot-on.

Though I'm beginning to think I like Will Ferrell's W. a lot more. His show airs on Saturday. I can't wait.

I haven't seen it, but I really have no desire to.  To me GWB isn't so interesting that I need to watch a dramatization of his last 20 years.  It's not like the movie was a documentary either, so it's not like you'd be able to notice some great insight or character flaw in him (GWB).

Would be interesting to know any sourcing Stone used to make the film. If it's just his impression/opinion of how things went down, then it's about as much of a documentary as any Michael Moore film.

That's true. I enjoyed watching Frost v Nixon, and W has been pretty good so far.

Yeah that was something I was quite curious about as well.

I was aware of the necessity of Iraq but never knew some of the facts the film gave. It was quite good, but dragged on at parts.

I agree that the film portrays Bush in a somewhat positive light, it humanises him rather than simply pointing out all of his epic failures. I liked how it addressed the way in which he hijacked his brother Jeb's political aspirations... let's face it, there will never be another President Bush in the United States in our lifetime. The film was quite good but nothing spectacular. I did like the slightly cryptic ending - Bush waiting in the outfield for a pitch that never comes.

Just finished it. I was disappointed it ending during the year 2004.

The film did humanise him and you did feel sympathy, but whenever there was a Bushism it was always taken out of context and used in another scene which for me was off putting. That was the case in all but one scene, where he had the interview and was asked about any regrets and stumbled accurately to the event.

Bunch of liberals playing a bunch of conservatives with a liberal director portraying a conservative president. You know it's gonna be good.

I might have seen it for a laugh or two but you can't take it's message seriously.

ummm, don't be so sure.  It has yet to be seen how history will tell the tail of W. Bush.

Just wait until Obama cuts defense and ends the war on terror just to have the M.E. blow up causing a true energy crisis and a major attack take place in America.  Then we'll see who the true idiots are from the W. era.

meh, why the fuck do I bother and try to reason with a mutton man?  He is probably drunk and busy fondling his leprechaun's bag o' lucky charms anyway.

You do realize Obama has actually stepped up the war in Afghanistan, right?  He's not exactly the isolationist you seem to think he is.

What is it with you and the mutton comments? Potatoes I can appreciate, but mutton?

Your comments are hilarious, I get the impression you'd happily sacrifice a few thousand American lives just for the pleasure of being able to say "I told you so". How's about you focus some of the cash used for foreign aggression on developing a secure border and protecting your homeland? ...of course not, that would make far too much sense.
