While the "ban violent computer games" BS comes up every time something like that happens, I fear that this time it will last much longer (here in Germany). The reason? Elections for the parliament this year. The right can't wait to forbid more things that make life fun for young people and the left can't wait to take the last bit of responsibility from the people.

PS One of my more 'eccentric' colleagues (I work in electronics) made a complete COD4 map of our workplace, and a walkthrough video of him shooting and blowing the place up.
As far as I know he doesn't have an M16/203 or an M60 but I guess you never know.

People don't want to admit that the gunman was like themselves. Therefore, they have to blame something they do not like/have/participate in. That something may be guns, FPS games, violent movies, types of music, mental illness, poor parents, etc. Now, sometimes those things will play a partial role, but you can't logically place 100% of the blame on something that was not the 100% cause...but people try it all the time. They don't want to see this "monster" as someone generally like them.

But claiming games gives people more ideas and that head shots are like rewarding? Oh please, in a lot of movies they pop the head for style and that doesn't seems to be a problem. Would it be the same thing to claim people are vampires hunters when they stab someone in the heart with a stake? Well maybe but a stake to the heart = A kill.
Oh and I have still to see a game which is close to the brutality of Sin City movie. That movie was rather brutal but good.
But yea looks like the government censor plot on video games pretty much failed. So they might as well scrap the whole idea as it won't change a bloody thing.
