Nvidia plans GTX 275 against 4890.

Rumored to either be a GTX 260 55nm with a 512bit bus or a GTX 285 with a 448 bus.

I'd guess the latter as it would be basically 1 pcb of the current GTX 295.

You can already do that with two current 260's. Two 280 should make it better than a 295.

480 / 2 = 240 which is the core number of the 285.

1792 / 2 = 896 which the exact ram on the 260.

So it uses the 285 core and the 260 ram... Man, just get 285's instead.

At this point, I'm pretty sure two 285's would serve you much better than a 295 sliced in half >_<

I have the money for it but it just isn't worth extra 200€ If the info about price range is right.... this card will cost ~500€ in SLi.

I thought the 4890 was supposed to take on the GTX 285?

If it doesnt, what the hell is the point in releasing it? If Nvidia have the fastest single GPU out right now, and the 4890 isnt challenging it, they will be in EXACTLY, the same position in april, as they are now.

It seems so bizzare though. Particularly when I keep hearing that it is supposedly a new chip rather than a cherry picked/refined RV770.

I really cant see it being intended to go after that GTX 216. If they wanted to do that, they would of done it months ago. Eventhough the 260 216 is the better out of it and the 4870, it isnt as if it's head and shoulders ahead of it.

Since this is supposed to last until christmas when the dx11 cards come out, or, ten months after the release of RV770, if it doesnt beat the 285 it is going to be an embarasment.

Or to put it another way, if we consider what pace the 260 216 is at, it is taking them ten months to come up with a 10% increase? Surely not.....

its not... Its getting awsoem price drops and the HD 4890 even in best scenario is only marginally faster.

edit: and GTX 285 way too fast to be even threatened by HD 4890. Its just to say, I have bigger (1% faster) graphics card in price range x than you. lol

in this case gtx 260 being targeted.

It could be another trojan horse move.

Remember, how ATi claimed the 4850 was to compete with the 8800GT and the 4870 with the 9800GTX? When in reality it was 4850 vs 9800GTX and 4870 vs GTX 260 (192).

Taking this long to beat a card that has been out for months seems to be an awful lot of work for not much more gain. It isnt as if this is a flagship card that will win in fanboy circles, infact, ATi would probably look worse if they only just manage to beat the 260 216 for reasons I mentioned earlier.

indeed... but even most optimistic rumors are talking about sub GTX 280 performance... even its name suggests it to be minor tweak.

OK, do you guys have any benchmarks for the Nvidia cards you guys are referring to in comparison to the other single-core ATi cards? Perhaps some cost numbers to attack to them?
