The man who threw his shoes at President George Bush has been sentenced to three years in prison. Disgraceful. You wouldn't even do time in any normal nation. Subservient scum.
It was known he would be facing a (no less than) three year sentence if convicted for awhile now.
I am surprised he was actually convicted, Iraqi courts took it very seriously.

So if you chucked something at a visiting head of state in Ireland, you wouldn't do any jail time?CameronPoe wrote:

You certainly would just about everywhere else in the world...if you were lucky.

A lot better than what he would've gotten under Saddam if he threw the shoe at Saddam.
Aka his family raped, tortured and killed in front of his eyes and then 10x worse for him.
Just sayin'.

Meh. I was kinda amazed at this too. Should probably be a month, at most.
Plus it was pretty funny, so I'll give him that.

noice

I agree with political protest.
But realistically if you cause trouble at any public event, or attempt to assault anyone - particularly a public figure - in any country you can expect to be in trouble.
Three years is somewhat harsh, still better than being chopped to pieces.

Fuck Israel
What? Go ahead and assault a foreign leader. 3 years? That's it? I wonder whats gonna happen to the poor bastard who chucked a shoe at Amiadinnajacket...CameronPoe wrote:

I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something. - Rodney Booker, Job Fair attendee.
Throwing his shoes could have been seen as repelling foreign invaders.
Liberals make me lol when they try to reason things out. It is like watching a retarded boy try to count change at a lemonaide stand, its very time consuming but entertaining.
What I like is the probability that if this guy threw a shoe at the Messiah, the liberals woulda been screaming racist, and demanding his head on a platter. As it was, it wasn't the Messiah, so what is the big deal?Lotta_Drool wrote:

I'm not sure, the Obamamaniacs that were entranced by the phrase "Yes We Can" are slowly waking up. I mean, these small minds actually believed there would be " change ".lowing wrote:

Shoes being thrown at people is definately the work of a motivated stupid person. Obamamaniacs are very stupid and very motivated so I can see the shoes coming off before long.

Considering hurling your shoes is meant to be their greatest insult and he hurled his at a state leader, and a pretty big state leader as well, three years isn't that bad a punishment for him. He could've been hanged.
I don't get it... if you start a huge, bloody war on bogus grounds resulting in the deaths of thousands upon thousands of people and the destruction of countless lives you get to retire and enjoy a sideline in after-dinner speaking but if you miss someone with your shoes you get three years?
and who appointed Saddam Hussein???Poseidon wrote:

A guy here got two years for murder, that's because we have a crap punishment system. Throwing a shoe at someone is close to (if not) assault, and assaulting a very powerful politician is not a smart move.Braddock wrote:

Saddam was part of the Ba'ath party that led a coup and overthrew the president in the late 60's and then rose up to become the president. Saddam pretty much appointed himself.rammunition wrote:

I don't really know what to tell you since I disagree with you on the War. Bush did his job. Saddam is gone. Iraq can begin its rebuilding.Braddock wrote:

The shoe chucker assaulted a foreign leader. Three years is a joke. I'd have given him at least 5.

Assault is assault. Or is it not assault because its George Bush.CameronPoe wrote:

Yeah great double standards there Poe.
If I threw a shoe at some randomer in the street would I do time - no I would not. I might get a fine or at the very worst a suspended sentence. What makes a President so special? I thought we were beyond the age of kings? The point stands - this is pathetic.FEOS wrote:

lol. How many people charged with and found guilty of assault in the UK get let off with a slap on the wrist or a fine. Fucking tonnes. 3 years for throwing shoes at someone - ridiculous. Efficient and worthy use of prison space? lol. How about filling the jails with Al Qaeda or drug dealers, eh....?Vilham wrote:

Come on Cam... Assault is assault. Assault on a President is a bit more serious. Your point is out of order. -this is not pathetic. In civilized society there are laws that carry just consequences.CameronPoe wrote:

Why is Obama special? Why should someone get 3 years for throwing shoes at him. It's a first time offence for throwing non-lethal shoes at someone, ffs.lowing wrote:

No siree. Don't subscribe to anyone - not anyone - being deemed 'more important' than anyone else. I don't give a fuck if it was Jesus himself who had shoes thrown at him: first offence for a petty crime - he should be fined and perhaps givne a suspended sentence or some community service - like in any normal country. Waste of a cell imo.DBBrinson1 wrote:
