“He refused to comply with the officers and so the officers had to deploy their Tasers in order to subdue him. He is making incoherent statements; he's also making statements such as, ‘Shoot cops, kill cops,’ things like that. So there was cause for concern to the officers,” said Ozark Police Capt. Thomas Rousset.

I wasn't there so i can't really say much about the incident... only that this kid was talking about...shoot cops and kill cops...
and i'm guessing Evil knievel(jumper) might be a little unbalanced mentally and not know his back was broken with the adrenaline from jumping off a bridge...

If they go to court and the officers are found guilty... then they should be put in jail...

probably to subdue him???

I know I find mumbling quadriplegics threatening. They're only a step bellow little girls and stale gum that is kind of sharp so it cuts your gums a little at first, you know, so you say "oww, my gums" and spit it out and look at it with disgust? Yeah...as threatening as that.

I think once your found guilty of certain crimes, jail is the standard punishment.

Can't we all just agree that stupid people need a good tazing from time to time.  If for nothing else then to stimulate brain activity.

Yeah they were written months ago.

There is a thread about the incident on bf2s somewhere.
There is, I remember reading it awhile back that's why I remembered to check youtube for the news story.
D'oh.

Must have missed it first time round.

^^^^  I assumed much less then you from the little information presented.  Thanks for setting me straight on making assumption though.  You are really smart for a small town hillbilly.
The point I was ultimately trying to make is that in small towns such as these, there is often very little direct oversight into police activity, other than the actual agencies themselves.  There aren't huge media outlets for them to worry about, and a lot of the officers' will pretty much protect their own, regardless of the "rightness" of whatever activities took place.

Oh, and thanks for continuing to try to portray Missourians as backwards hillbillies.  If you would have made a statement such as, "Because he was [black / latino / purple...], I will assume he was committing a crime and deserved what he got...," people would understandably have a right to take offense.  I see little difference in you saying that you will assume he was poor white trash and thus was obviously up to no good.

Some how I have been able to go through life without ever:

Needing to run from the police
Jump/falling from overpass
Not looking/acting like a (drug crazed?) threat to the cops.

Did anyone that is defending the stupid boy ever consider looking into if he was:

A.  Armed
B.  Drugged up
C.  Already had harmed police/civilians or put them in danger
D.  See if he was actually crippled when tazed (just because your back is broke doesn't mean you are paralised)
E.  Was running from police in stolen car

I tend to side with cops when a story is written so incomplete.  Me thinks a journalist left info out to make the headlines, otherwise it would have been written:

17 year old boy slips and falls from overpass and is tazed by police?  Or police taze boy who is charge with no crime.  Obviously the police did this for a reason, yet the only thing the article suggest is because he wouldn't stand?  Well, if I thought the was doped up and armed I would taze his ass too vs assuming he isn't a threat and just not complying for  ???? what reason.  Of course the police will treat a person according to how they acted before they were caught because if they were running/resisting before, cops don't like to be killed by bad guys.

If I was walking along and slipped and fell of the overpass and broke my back, I would hope that the same police where there to help me, and I am sure they would without fail.  Only a fucking moron would fear being tazed 9 times for the hell of it by police.

Don't be an idiot, Lotta. I don't see a lot of people here defending the kid for whatever he might've done. What I do see are a lot of people criticising cops for using a taser on an incapacitated guy with a broken back.

He wasn't running form police. When they found him he was already face down with a broken back.

The circumstances over how he fell haven't been revealed. Some here have thought perhaps suicide.

How was he looking like a threat to the cops? His back was broken.

Have you? What were your conclusions?

A. Was he armed and dangerous?
B. Drugged up, yeah that'd be a scary sight. A half conscious drug user who can't move.
C. If that's the case surely the police would have been more concerned about what threat he did pose to start with.
D. Yeah I'm sure when your crippled and unable to speak sense that you can still flail your arms about wildly enough to deserve being tazed repeatedly... Not.
E. He wasn't running from police in a stolen car. He had fallen off a cliff. The first time the police saw him was in that state.

Really?

the boy was incoherent and refused to get up when ordered to do so
I think if you happen to fall 30ft. and these are the officers who are sent to your "rescue" you had better walk it off, broken back or otherwise. They might not appreciate coming all that way to find you can hardly say thank you let alone get up and shake their hand for responding so quickly.

Please provide a link to all this info you have if you have it?  And no I am not going to search the internet to try to prove this story is slanted.  Obviously the article doesn't supply facts that would be needed to jump to conclusions about the cops, which is why I would think they were ommitted intentionally.  I could be wrong and it is just shitty journalism, but I doubt it.

Didn't you watch the video. Before a sugery or when a patient comes in unconcisous, the ER is going to do a tox screen on the patient for drugs and alcohol. There is someone on the video who states that those tests came back negative. Sorry but the kid wasn't drunk or high. But he might have been on LSD, lots of LSD as one witness told investigators.

To me its obvious that that police department failed miserably in the training of these officers. I would expect these cops to be more professional. tasering anyone 19 times is trying to kill them. But nevertheless, the little shit appears to have been on LSD at the time and it might be that the didn't even feel the broken bones or back and was running around as the cops said, and it might have taken all 19 zaps to put his ass down.
But I'm sure that these lazy ass cops could have just sat on him.

Anyway the LSD would explain the flying off of the overpass

Here are the updates I found.

What a great idea some guy's in cardiac arrest, lets tazer him to get his heart beating again.  I'm sure it's just like a defibrillator, it just hurts alot more.
