Seems as though the downturn is having a intellectual as hole as many H-1B visa candidates and immigrants go back to their home countries.

We rely on many H-1B immigrants with advances degrees and their contributions to technology.

There yet hasn't been a backlash against the remaining poorer immigrants who aren't government-service positive as services across the board are cut.

People haven't realized outside conservative circles that there's a large percentage of the 12 to 20 million illegals in the United States that aren't government-service positive and are a drain on resources.

Not really, but conservatives generally aren't as vocal (i.e. protests, marches, sit-ins, etc...).  And since we're in the minority now not much to do except as Rush said, "bend over and take it for the next 4 years."

no admitting it isn't new, actually being concerned about it is new.

It is a global recession. Your not going to have many leave because they don't think the US is in good stride, unless they go back to China. Which even though isn't in recession, is recording "very low" growth.

If you concerned about the illegals being a drain on resources, I assume you also take into account the amount of money they do generate for those who hire them. The illegals are hired because they are cheap and it saves the employer money. I thought the conservative way of thinking was that giving the employer more bargaining power is advantageous during times such as these.

That's why I differentiated between government-service positive vs. government-service negative immigrants.

It may save the employer money, but the American who didn't get that job hopefully can find another.  Or if not then they have to compete by accepting jobs at lower wages.

You know what would be funny?...  What if we just gave amnesty to all immigrants that could speak English well and contributed a lot of wealth or education/skill to our country?

Instead of giving all these poor people amnesty, we should do that.

Pass a language and skills test, win.

Being a skilled worker and a soon-to-be legal US immigrant, I can follow the motivation of H-1B workers who would rather return to their families and try their luck in their home countries, than risk losing their jobs in the US and being unable to return on their own terms. I'm postponing my immigration in order to build up my savings and advance professionally, as it's a much more relevant concern now than it was a year ago. Hopefully, if things to right, I'll also manage to weather the worst of the financial storm.

As for amnesty for illegals, I say fuck them. Let them get in the same line I had to get in.
