So right now our bubbles have burst, the tech bubble/stock market bubble has moved over to the real estate bubble. The real estate bubble had so much inflation involved in it that when it burst, it took down the whole economy. So now that we're in a new era of debt is wealth, is our national security so important. Now I understand the need for it and spreading the Democratic(capitalistic) way, but do we really need our hand in every pot.

Right.. lets layoff millions in the defense industry/soldiers. That will really get the economy moving.

I'm all for cutting back aid to though. Start with Israel and go south.

If that is the case hellsya. Focus on our borders, tighten up at home, and enlist the help of our allies. And if you're caught plotting anywhere near our border be prepared... oh shiz be prepared.

I see the point, but it's not possible. But it could be nice if we could use the soldiers who are on active duty just sitting on a base in nowhere waiting for a war to do something that could provide an income stream into the U.S. government.

He's probably talking about not spending so much on defence, hell they need to spend billions on financing those riot control microwave oven things and shit, cos when the riots start, they'll be thankful for those contraptions

I know what he meant. I'm just saying those troops in the middle of nowhere some place where a war will probobly not start and are they are not doing anything why not put them to work? They could be used for mining or cheap construction labor or they could replace or reinforce the local police.

Net government jobs retained as result of stimulus package; 110%

Not one federal job will be downsized and the rolls of federal workers increased by 10%.

Most threatened layoffs for state workers will not happen.

Skanska, the largest builder of bridges and freeway inter changes, damns and other assorted infrasctructure overseen by the army corps of engineers is a swedish owned company.

Where is the part where any of the stimulus helps me or mine?

btw, Obamas version of national security is having a civilian stateside force with as large a budget as the military, so hell yes, cut the funding asap.

I don't think there is, and the US can't afford to go down the route of protectionism and favouring outright US companies etc, remember the furore when there was a bit in the plan about "buy American" or something like that

Works for me.  Although I do actually want us to continue more work in Afghanistan.

Let's pull all of our troops from all overseas locations.

The countries that host those bases would scream bloody fucking murder (except for Iraq, possibly).

Well, it depends.  Many populaces want us to leave, but most of these governments involved want us to stay.

In general, the governments understand that any withdraw of our troops hurt the economies of the areas where our bases are.

Still, I think we ought to leave Korea and Turkey.

The populations that don't benefit from our presence may want that...but not the communities where the bases are located.

Of course not.  I'm just saying that there's a political tug of war that results from this.

Personally, I think we should withdraw from both Turkey and Korea to make a statement.  After both of those countries feel the economic and security pains that such moves would cause, they'd welcome us back after a few years.

We don't have much of a presence in Turkey at all. Korea is a different story...but I think you'll see a much smaller force there over the next several years.

No my industry didn't start the whole mess my man, it's been that we've been bubble ridding with no real economy. Making millionaires over night in the stocks and mortgage industry, with little or no actually assets.

Only let the govt hand out home loans? With what and have you ever seen them run the DMV.. Way to go for a socialist economy USMarine

Pretty useless having a base in Germany, considering the Russian front has moved much further East. Unless you consider the Polish-Kalinigrad border as the Frontier region between Russia and the rest of Euroland. Alot of people seem to forget about the Kalinigrad exclave, Russia still shares a border with Poland and Lithuania even though their empire dissolved

Well I assume the base is used as a stop-over to the ME and so on.
