Jindal vs. Obama: Round One

With most of the Republican party opposing the crap sandwich that is now the law known as the Great Fiscal Suicide Act of 2009 (aka “stimulus”), there’s criticism - somewhat deservedly - being thrown at those same R’s, telling them that if they’re so opposed to the President’s massive spending bill, don’t take the money.

Basically, nut up or shut up.

The former appears to be what Bobby Jindal, Louisiana Governor and the Ghost of Reagan Future, might be prepared to do. Or, if he doesn’t turn it down outright, he might turn down some of it.

The put up or shut up is much like the war funding with Iraq that the Democrats were opposed to. It was made out like they didn't support the troops, rather than not supporting the war.

This is a stupid idea. They're going to pay for it no matter what, and whatever money LA doesn't take will just be sent elsewhere. They'll be paying exactly what they would have paid before, except now they'd get fuck all out of it.

This is the same reasoning I'm using when Commissar Obama unveils his anti-foreclosure plan. I'm paying for it anyway so, even though I don't support it, I'm sure as shit going to take advantage of it if I'm eligible. I have to help pay for it either way.

No one was comparing them. They are complete opposite ends of the political spectrum and of course Obama is a great speaker.

My wife and I were joking last night about how he (Obama) seems like a used car salesman trying to sell us something. We compared Obama to Clinton for a bit when my wife said the difference between those two was that with Clinton you knew what you were getting. He was still dressed like a car salesman and talked like one. With Obama he puts on his preacher clothes and preaches to you about how things need to happen. Metaphorically speaking of course. Pretty scary really.

I must admit, I have to give it to Jindal for stand up for his convictions.

Instead of taking the the $3.8 Billion dollars being offered to the 4th Poorest State in the US, Jindal is putting his money where his mouth is...

and only taking $3.7 Billion.

This, coming from a guy who went on national television and railed the stimulus as irresponsible.

I'm not sure which is worse, the fact that he pretty much insults my intelligence by being this blatantly hypocritical, or that he is essentially waving his state around as a political flag.

So sure, Jindal for 2012. But could he at least, for the time being, try to look out for the people he is responsible for now?

The only reason the Republicans fought the bill is because they didn't get exactly what they wanted. If they got massive tax breaks and funding to make an airport named after Reagan and a bridge in Texas named after Bush they would have folded earlier.

Sadly, this is true.

A lot of the stuff that the Republicans fought involved pork that only benefited the Democrats. They didn't have a problem with the pork they benefited from and even tried to insert some of their own into it (since states like Alaska love pork).

What we need are more true advocates of smaller government in Congress.
