You forgot the UK, France, Russia, China, and gobs of others. That's an asinine argument.
But it's a valid question. What gives us the right to have long range weapons but not N. Korea or anyone else we don't like. What exactly gives us the right to hold a sword over the head of everyone else and never allowing anyone to ever grab a sword in defense?
International treaties and whatnot, for starters.

I'm sure if N. Korea was a different state, the international approach toward them would be different.

Cause we can... lol
Unfortunately we are the worlds police(and also insure our own safety)... We make sure that nuts like Kim jong  and aquahadiddyjihad among others don't get weapons that they can use to blow up other countries...  It makes us unpopular to some... but nobody complains when we are there to help them out...   Right now countries are testing BO to see what he is made of... we shall see?

Because we have that power.  When it gets to the level of statehood, rights don't enter into it.  Sad, but true.  We do whatever distasteful thing we need to do to promote the self-intrests of our own nation.  Those nations big into breaking into the global community are the ones who have something to gain by doing it.  We feel our safest when we are the only ones with a gun.

Right.

'lil kim' there is so interested in developing N. Korea's infrastructure, world trade, and open communication abilities.  Of course he's launching a 'communications satellite".

Nevermind that his people have been starving for decades, but he always has a budget for military toys.

Nevermind that a closed xenophobic state like N. Korea has less than zero use for a communications satellite.

Let's all be totally naieve, and trust that lil' kim is interested in communications satellites, and NOT developing long-range delivery systems for their newfound nuclear weapons capability.

Only bit of advice:

Let N. Korea keep at it.  Let them 'cross that line' with Japan, S. Korea, or China.  Any one of those three, once truly threatened, will flat out wipe N. Korea off the map.  Gaijin stay out of it - the orientals can handle that little pissant excuse for a country.  That region truly does have 10,000 years of historic pissing contests between those three.
Quite.

Even us Euros are fairly adept at killing each other, but we're nothing compared to them crazy Asians!

Not so much crazy. More like patient, through, and determined.

The middle east claims a long memory because they've got 3 or 4 books they can trace back a couple thousand years.
Hell, there's probably oriental households with family heirloom cookware older than that.

(Edit: yes, exaggeration to make a point)

Because we have that power.
Exactly the point I was making in my post.

I could declare myself an independent state. I could, as a said independent state, declare a sovereign right to pursue the exploration/exploitation of space through building a satellite and a rocket to build it.

But, if I then start also saying, for example, that I wanted to develop a 'peaceful' nuclear program, you bet your ass that the nuclear super-powers are gonna start saying "oh, wait just one second now; that satellite you said you were building..."
