This is a category 2 cyclone which is off the coast of North Queensland.It is heading towards the coast.I, and I guess some of our other members are going to be affected by this storm.Link to weather site.

Its not very common for a cyclone of this type to pass over heavily populated areas .Am taking all necessary precautions to be ready.Anyone else in the danger zone?Or are there other members who have been exposed to natures fury?

Thanks mate.Its a great place,just not so atm.now its a category 4 and is heading straight for innisfail.

will hit monday morning ,maximum forecast wind speed is 280 kph.will try to get photos and film and post them.

getting close now.is very,very windy and is teeming rain.category 5 now with winds expected up to 300 kph.

wow what an experience.both exhilarating and frightening.we had wind gusts of more than 220 kph here and we were about 100 klms from the eye.the amazing thing was no loss of life and no serious injuries were reported.goes to show what can happen when the right preparations are made.lost power for about 40 hours.
just minor damage to properties near here with extensive damage in innisfail.the hills near my house are usually covered in rainforest but to the south are totally denuded.as if they had a bushfire without the charring.

thanks people.There is a second cyclone off the coast but we should be ok its not expected to break land.the clean up operation is huge and seems very well coordinated,we may have something to offer our american friends who live in hurricane country.willpost some photos tomorrow.havent had more than 3 hours sleep in nearly three days.adrenaline is a funny thing.am going to volunteer to help clean up.it seems as if communities have been made a lot closer and there are so many stories about people helping those in need.
Its great how adversity can bring out the best in people as also evidenced in xX[Elangbam]Xx"s post about his sister.
p.s. we have a moonsoon trough over us now and can expect 100mm + in the next 24 hours:D i love the rain.

Having lived in Hurricane zones all my life, and after seeing America's response to the threat of natural disaster, ANYONE could teach America a thing or two on how to handle a natural disaster.

Still great to see people's concern and help, no matter where you are or are from. Not enough people like that in the world. (ie support for his sister - 35 posts globewide in 3 days) If only we could isolate the genes....
