Alright, let's see. I bought the $10 BF2 game at Best Buy a week ago. I installed it with no problems, and played it several times with no problems. I went through the usual issues with PB and Vista, but after updating PB and running it as an administrator (Vista, yes), I was able to play with no crashes, lag, or any of that. However, only 5 or so servers would show, and the only filter I had on was "same version."
I downloaded the 1.4 then 1.41 patch, but they did nothing when I tried to run them. I set the compatibility for XP or whatever, and they ran fine!
After a perfect patch install, I opened the game. The number in the bottom left showed that the patch worked as it should. However I was met with the "create new/retrieve old" account screen. No matter HOW MANY times I tried it, I would get the "uniquenick in use" or "wrong combo" alert. My password on my account was just "xxx". Every time I entered my email/nickname it would say it was wrong. I tried resetting the password, still no luck.
Clean uninstall, reinstall, still no luck.
I ended up deleting my account and making a new one. I only had ~600 points, meh, just a few days work.
Well...I created a new account, but it crashed to desktop when I did.
Alright...restart the game, and the account I created is recognized. I just have to type my password and login.
EVERY TIME I click login, black screen, crash to desktop!
WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!?!?!?!?!
It is not an issue with my computer being able to run it. My laptop can run games like Crysis and Assassin's Creed on the highest settings (/smug), so this one shouldn't be a problem. Plus, I was able to play it for several days with no problems.
