So I was playing fine on my new Alienware box with dual Nvidia 7800 GT video cards then installed v1.21 patch. Yikes.

Did I mention, yikes?

So now I can make it as far as seeing the game screen post loading, and after clicking "join now" button. The screen and my computer freezes. The sound loops and literally my entire computer locks up. Only a hard reboot gets me back up and running.

I've deleted my shader cache, reinstalled the patch, restarted the computer.... anyone else having this problem? Anyone else figured out how to solve it?

Are you running NVIDIA IDE drivers? Try removing them. (it'll just revert to the default Windows drivers, so no worries). It worked for me.

Also, instead of clicking the Join Now button, try manually finding a server. There may be an issue with the Join Now button. I know that when I click that button it takes a longer amount of time to join a game, and BF2 acts a little strange.
