Yup,

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.vi … geId=87322

A little-discussed provision in President Obama's economic stimulus plan would demand that every American submit to a government program for electronic medical records without a choice to opt out, and it has privacy advocates more than a little alarmed.

Patients might be alarmed, too, privacy advocates said, if they realized information such as documentation on abortions, mental health problems, impotence, being labeled as a non-compliant patient, lawsuits against doctors and sexual problems could be shared electronically with, perhaps, millions of people.

Sue A. Blevins, president of the Institute for Health Freedom, said unless people have the right to decide "if and when" their health information is shared, there is no real privacy.

"President Obama has pledged to advance freedom," she said. "Therefore the freedom to choose not to participate in a national electronic health-records system must be upheld." .........
The story continues in the article.

Sigh, see what you've done.

if people want the govt to pay for their health care, then they should give up their records.

This. Not to mention that if health care is going to be nationalized, there should be a national medical record database. Of course, that's only if you want to use the NHS and not private health insurance. The same privacy standards should be practiced (As it stands, medical records are basically the holy grail of private info if I'm not mistaken) but a doctor should be able to get medical info about you if necessary (with permission of course).

It could be damned useful if you're driving in a state that you don't live in, get in a car crash, and get taken to the nearest ER. The doctor can do a look-up of your info and find things like blood type, medicines that may conflict with what they want to administer, etc.

Also, on a side-note, paper prescriptions are SO 20th century.

The medical business is stuck in the 20th century. It doesn't bother me if that's what I have to do to get it modernized..

And anyone who complains better have been ranting like hell about all the "invasions of privacy" there were during the Bush administration.

As Marine said, if you want national health care, it's not that bad. Hell in Taiwan we do the same shit, makes everything a lot easier. You might go but zomgs companies will discriminate based on health records!

From the article it seems as though your records are already available to those 600,000 entities, just in paper form.  This bill would force the records to be scanned in electronically - which I have no problem with.

My main issue is what kind of entities are allowed access to my medical records, not the fact that they are available electronically.  I don't know much about this so I'll have to dig deeper.

I think he's referring to how we already subsidize the healthcare of illegals that end up in the ER and don't pay for services granted.

Also, yes...  Mexico has considerably higher amounts of VD's per capita and even some more easily spreadable diseases like Hepatitis.  Even TB is starting to show up here because of Mexico.

It's pretty fucked up.

Well...  if there's anything I'm socially conservative on...  it's immigration.

Personally, I like the restrictions I've heard New Zealand has in place.  You have to be either highly educated/skilled or wealthy to immigrate there in most cases.

We've got what appears to be an endless supply of poor, low skill labor coming from Mexico, so we should just make it harder for people from everywhere else to immigrate here.  We have very little hope of actually controlling immigration here from Mexico, but it's much easier to screen boats of people (and rafts for that matter -- when it comes to Cubans).

The point is...  we already have a surplus of poor people.  We don't need anymore coming here.

Oh I agree.  Hell, I'm sure someone will probably call me a Nazi for even bringing this shit up.

Still, they have to admit it's practical.

i see no issue with it at all.

i find it funny when people say we are a "nation of immigrants."

no, we are a nation of people we deemed suitable to join in the building of our country.

seriously wtf do you care if they have your medical records? Think your the first person to ever get an std?  Do you really think the government cares that much about you, fucking conspiracy fags, imagine how much easier it would be if it was electronic, how much easier dieseases and breakouts could be tracked, maybe it would be easier to find people with EXACT symptoms and no fucking around for christs sake my wife was in the hospital for 3 days before they figured out it was her appendix... jesus this is fucking 2009 and a doctor cant tell if its an appendix or not? How many people does the hospital do this to? do you know? be a lot easier if to find out if their was an actual database for it.

Well, the thing that people forget is that when we had a ton of people immigrating here from Europe, we needed the labor.  People were discriminated against for being certain ethnicities (like Irish in NY), but in the end, there were enough jobs for these people.

Nowadays, this isn't the case.  We don't need anymore cheap labor than we've already got.

Times change, and so must things like immigration policy.

In addition to this, there were certain things in place that were very racist like exclusion acts against Chinese immigration, but what I'm proposing really has nothing to do with race.  It only has to do with class, which is a more valid thing to filter immigrants by, since it is a practical consideration for the economy as a whole.

If illegals get treated taxpayers are going to pay for them in NHS, which could be more expensive than average healthy legal citizen.
