I've had problems connecting to my online account.  When logging on, it gets stuck on the "Connecting to Account Server" screen.

I didn't have a problem before 3/14/06.  I even went so far as to re-format my computer and re-install BF2, but to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Do you have a firewall? That would happen to me when I installed zonealarm for the first time. I removed it and things went back to normal.

Follow this guide on Secrets of Battlefield.

Scroll down to Step 3b: Unlock BF2's Ports and free up the ports as it says.

On a side-note of account server logins, mine occasionally says Invalid Username/Password, even though I've got it on save.

I had the same problem. I switched my modem off and on and it started working again.

If you install ZoneAlarm you have click "allow" on the "ZoneAlarm Security Alert" popups when BF first tries to access the Internet. With Battlefield 2 taking over the screen you 90% of the time never see them as they are behind the Battlefield 2 window. Alt+Tab out of Battlefield 2 and you should see them.

If all else fails, theres always format.

I'd try cleaning all the spyware off your PC and running a virus scan perhaps. Have you tried reinstalling and repatching Battlefield 2?

OK.  Here is an update to my situation.  I reformatted my computer.  I re-installed BF2 and tried logging into the server with my account name and pass, but it didn't work again.  I still got stuck on the "Connecting to Account Server" screen.  I created a new account name, and I was able to log in.

At least I know it isn't hardware or firewall problems.  So why can't I use my old account?  I worked for a couple months to get my stats and unlocks.  Who can help me access my old account?  I tried contacting EA, but they never respond to my e-mails...

I am very frustrated!

just like everyone else, I've had the problem for like a month now. I found out from people that you should actually have your firewall on, and I've tried reinstalling and making new accounts didnt work either. Manually updating punkbuster didn't work either cause I could never even get through it, and finally i've resorted to the port thingy, but how do u open up ports in the first place?

I created this forum account just to share this and hopefully save you all some time.  I have been trying to figure this problem out for months.  I have tried everything!!!  I tried removing spyware, dedfrag after defrag, deleting all startup items to free up memory in msconfig,  renaming bf2 files, playing with my cmos,  the list goes on and on and on......   Then I had an idea..   After searching through several forums, somewhere along the line someone said to delete your account off your computer, then use the account locator to reinstall the account back on to your computer.  I ignored this possible solution for weeks.  I decided I was desperate and should trry it.   It took about 5 minutes to do.  I went from 1:56 (time staring at "connecting to account server") to about 5 seconds!     Give this a try, it will work!  Lert me know if this works for you.
