E.Kristiansen is me if you want to add that to the original post. My parents plan on buying the pro account so we can share pictures from Dominican Republic through e-mail. Family members would probably be confused if they were linked to ebug9's photostream

Some nice pictures there Wallpaper

could you guys expand on this whole "editing" thing?

does it involve photoshop? cause im gonna make the investment into a digital SLR (i think), so i dont want to be dropping an assload of money for software as well.

any substitutes to that?

But seriously, I'm going to go put on some food.. then come back and edit this post with what I hope should be a good response. It might include pictures if you are lucky.

EDIT: Or not. It's only 1230am, but I'm fucking tired.

Long story short - You buy a DSLR for ultimate control over the image. Part of the image making process includes editing the photo (post-shot). Especially when you shoot in RAW format, which offers the most flexibility. What you can do in Photoshop is similar to what was done back in the days of the photographic darkroom. Changes to colour saturation, contrast, etc, etc.

No, it's not essential.. but your images sure as shit can look a million times better. Want me to post some examples?

For free Photoshop alternatives, GIMP isn't bad. Paint.net aint too shabby either, though its more a lightweight type thing

both my pics are pretty heavily edited, lulz.

@Parker: Lightroom should be all you need, that's all I use for photo editing anyway. $300 is quite a stiff price, but I'd reccomend downloading the trial (30 days) first and see if you feel it's worth it.

Jenspm has the right idea with Lightroom. Ideally, that is all you should need.

Oh, and maybe an external hard drive to keep all your original photo files, and the .jpg files you would export from Lightroom. When you start taking a lot of photos, organisation of your files is VERY improtant.

So very very true. Catalogs, keywords, and ratings are essential when you start storing photos in the tens of thousands.

It's good you mention this. Lightroom offers these and other tools which are great when you are sorting shots out from a shoot.

indeed.

I've never really organized my photos before (just had them on various mem sticks and harddrives)... It's going to take a while to sort this shit out. Thank god Lightroom let's me auto import into date-specific folders!

mint, that pic's great (as are your other shots as well). I thought "Ian Curtis" when I saw that one. Definite band/artist photography.

Thanks guys! Yeah, we are just mucking around and taking pics at my mates place. It totally looks like a band shot

Actually, one of my mates was looking like a Secret Service Agent, and after his photos he grabbed a guitar hero guitar.. later I shall try to post a cover for "Guitar Hero - Songs of the Secret Service"
