Well, if nothing else, health insurance should be run by the government. If you want the care to remain private, that's fine, but as you said, the insurance is rather ridiculous.Kmarion wrote:

The majority of why we pay so much now has to do with privatization. America is one of the only First World nations that doesn't negotiate prices with pharmaceutical companies. We also pay a lot for the bureaucratic costs that private care incur. On average, governmental care tends to cost less in terms of bureaucracy. I know that sounds counterintuitive, but it's actually true.Kmarion wrote:
I understand your presumption but it doesn't necessarily hold true. There is no equivalent to a government managed health care system on our scale now. And the fact that we are spending more now than everyone else in socialized healthcare leads me to believe that a completely government controlled system would be epic failure.
Granted, we also need to implement tort reform.
Don't ever say vote Ron Paul again.Turquoise wrote:

Health Care is pro-American. As are Government Education grants.
Ya' see, America is a place where supposedly if you work hard, you can do well in life. Now if by something that is completely out of your control you get injured and can pay the money needed to get back to work, that would be going against the American idea of hard work that pays off. Also education, you work pretty hard in school and do quite well but your parents are too poor to send you to a good college. So you go to a crappy college and aren't really able to get as far ahead as you would have been if the fiscal situation of your family, something that is out of a child's control, was better.

Wrong. It is the land of opportunity, not guarantees. You are afforded a right to take a shot at the title, no matter what your born lot in life is. You have mistaken the dream for the every man is a servant ideology. My ancestors migrated here for a new beginning. There was absolutely no certainty in the chance they took. The American spirit is about facing challenges head on and overcoming them. Bailouts, grants, and having your way paved with taxpayer other peoples money is not "pro-American".DoctaStrangelove wrote:

Consider if ye will just the FICA tax.
We all know SS is broke, which is the FICA part of us Yanks payroll deductions.
If Social Security was previously sheduled to go broke by 2042, why is this tax still being withheld? Obviously SS as it exists now will not exist for anybody typing on this forum.
Stopping these withholdings right now would put 150-300 dollars per month in the average smucks pocket constituting a ' right fucking now ' stimulus.
Or, I know; divide 1.6 trillion by 360 million and what would everybody get if this bailout was in checks cut to citizens?
Either path, of checks to citizens or checks to banks will devalue our currency, so why not give the sorry ass work a day smucks the borrowed money?
Let them buy tattos and pitbulls and pay off the chevy and maybe put a down payment on a foreclosed home.
But no, even the FICA solution is too radical for the likes of usmarine.
I'll still be here, explaining the rational for why our system needs to be reset. Sooner or later you will all realize I have been right and some will wish you had at least preparred for that contingincy (sp) .

We can't socialize health care. We just can't.
There are to many fat people to put it plain and simple. It was released today that 40% of innercity and 25% in the suburbs are overweight/Obese(In Rochester). We cannot as a whole afford the medical costs that will come. I don't have the math or a source, just use some sense. I think at this point we have to make people more aware, shit I smoke cigarettes and am told by a commercial or poster that imma die early everyday, why aren't we putting it that way to Obese people?
And wow I'm sorry that's a tad off topic. But if we lived in a smaller nation with less diversity then I think it's great.

Why not? I support Ron mostly because he's the opposite of the people in power. If Ron was president with a Democratic Congress, then some pretty good compromises would probably result from it.Kmarion wrote:

The point is... no one ideology has all the answers. Ron would simply be a very good limiter of pork, but he obviously couldn't stop all pork or stop the government from taking over certain things.
It's about balance.
Improved public amenities are essential to First World life. If that's not pro-American, then America won't be a First World nation for much longer. Granted, that might end up being the case anyway.Kmarion wrote:
