With all the money that is going into bailing out companies, what is being done to make sure its spent properly?

Is the government putting their own people on the boards of these companies?
Do they have to lodge some sort of paperwork showing where its spent?
Does the money come with "caveats"?

They talk about oversight, but most of the time, it seems to become a situation where oversight is an oversight.

There was talk about putting govt. representatives onto the boards of some of the banks. But then what's the point?

They aren't going to have any real power in meetings and will be shot down by a ruling majority.

And then at what extent do Americans want the govt. controlling their lives? This goes against that group of people very strongly.

The funny thing is...  many Libertarian-leaning people like myself would rather have nationalization of industries than these bailouts, because at least then, there would be some kind of accountability.

With the way these things are put together, it's basically just a matter of the government throwing money at big business.  It's corporate welfare, plain and simple.

Thats probably the best description i have heard.

If i gave someone 1 billion i would say "here is the new company charter" (making certain kpi's, assurances etc), here are 3 government employees for your new board, no more bonuses, everyone on modest salaries, now get back to work.

It just seems so irresponsible to give out money with no oversight.

Special interests and Democratic 'Pet Projects' are getting the money.  Only like 25% of the money is actually going to be a job 'growth' expenditure, the rest...shit.

Dewd.. they are reluctant to tell us who is getting the money at all (the smaller banks). They are afraid that it will cause a run on the banks.. people taking their money out and causing more problems.
