canada seems to be handling this pretty well tbh. much better than UK/USA
Canada's problem is that they are tied to America very closely.

We consume 85% of your exports.  If we go down, you do next (unless you diversify your trade more).
canada has been diversifying a lot i believe, with trade agreements with china and russia...
That's good.  For your financial security, that's a good direction to go in.  Everyone should diversify trade more, including America.

There's no reason why the private sector in Norway would be spared. The difference is that the Norwegian government has the billions needed to make a bailout relatively painless.
Good point...  it would be nice if we had a surplus like that.
Norwegian government released it's second bailout package yesterday ... a package to ensure the construction businesses have enough to do for some time to come fixing up schools, hospitals, roads etc etc ... $5 billion

The first package was directed towards the finacial market ... $58 billion
If you guys can dish out that money without going into debt, that's pretty impressive.

Normally we can't just overspend even though we have money in the bank, even now with the crisis we have to chose between to evils because the inflation ghost is lurking, the spending so far has worsen the Norwegian currency against the dollar and the euro making import more exspensive for some businesses ...

On the other hand interest rates are down and falling making ordinary people with a mortage feel more secure about their personal economy ...

At the end of 2008 we had about 367 billion dollars in the bank and that was a 0% increase from 2007 because of the stockmarket and falling oilprices ...

still not the point ATG.  what about the hospital in that town who has to make serious cuts now or even close?  what about the small business in that town that will close?  you know who will pay for it?  taxpayers.  and guess who gets by free and clear for fucking it all up...a german company.
That isn't really a one way street.
in this case it sure was.  the germans fucked it up big time and now they ruined a few towns.  and who gets the blame?  the USA.  because the media and their sheep cannot see the facts.
A two way street is still a two way street even if cars are only going in one direction at a given moment in time. American multinationals have way more impact in Europe than European multinationals have in the US. For someone who complains about people blindly blaming the US all the time, you sure do seem to be blindly blaming Europe right now.

To be honest, if a city hosting a large commercial employer cannot survive cutbacks or plant closures, it's the fault of the town, not the fault of the company. Businesses invariably have their ups and their downs, everyone knows this, and it cannot come as a surprise. If you build a town around a well, it's not the fault of the well when it dries up and cannot sustain the population anymore. People have know this for millenia, and smart people choose to either not be dependent on it, or have contigency measures.

nobody owes anybody a motherfucking thing.  what about the german company DHL who bought airborne express and ran it into to the ground here in the US?  so much so it ruined an entire town?  should they have to pay the unemployment benefits or should our government?  well no matter our govt has to pay for it....go figure.   you fuckwads blaming everything on the US is fucking retarded but it shows how stupid you really are.
Exactly. It's not the fault of the US - though most of it did originate there in the sub-prime markets. But did anyone force the foreign banks to pump money into US sub-prime markets? Of course not. They just kept doing it because it was generating good figures which gave all the people making the decisions big bonuses.
