Lowing, you amaze me sometimes. You can find appeasement in anything. Did Obama appease Al Qaeda when he approved an airstrike on a camp of theirs in Pakistan the other day?

On topic though, I imagine it was probably because he found it pretty important to tell them that "Americans are not your enemy." After all, since all Mooslims are clearly terrorists and want to kill all Americans, he wouldn't be doing his job as President if he didn't do his best to try and prevent them from attacking the US.

Yeah, what a bitch. He should've gone there and told the Muslim world, that they are infact, their enemy

Well,
Al-Arabiya has scored interviews with top U.S. officials in the past, including Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

The Saudi-owned channel is seen by some in Washington as more balanced in its coverage than its Qatar-funded rival Al-Jazeera, which the previous White House administration complained had an anti-American bias.
and Obama is doing what all good politicians should do. Talk first, but do so carrying a large stick.

He should be talking to the American media for his first historic presidential interview not the Arabs.

I guess. Doesn't really make a difference, but it does show he's committed to trying to fix relations with the Arab world. He doesn't need to fix relations with America.

TBH, I'm just surprised it's taken this long for him to do a TV interview. I thought Presidents to several of them a day.

Adressing the arabs through Fox news would hardly do any good ... and he has been talking to the Americans for 4 years prior to getting elected i believe ...

He has been talking to the American media since his campaign started what feels like 6 years ago. He didn't have the power to talk to the Arabs until now. The largest threat to America is in the Middle east (according to some), your armies are in two countries in the area. The majority of Middle eastern ppl see America as an aggressor. The Media outlet is based in a country which is your Alie yet the majority of the 9/11 hijackers came from. Seams to me these are exactly the ppl he should be talking about.
This is much more historical that talking to the American ppl. (He has laid out his plan in his campaign until we are sick hearing it)

I understand, but symbolically ( if for no other reason), he should be talking to his own people in his first interview as president, NOT the Arabs.

*shrugs*  Again, criticize him for policy, not his choice of broadcasters.  Al Jazeera isn't exactly the most neutral source, but I think he's making a good move here considering our current reputation in the Middle East.

He isn't broadcasting on Al Jazeera, he is broadcasting on the rival (and far less extremist) Al-Arabiya network.

Whoops...  I really should read these things closer.

In that case, there should be no complaint coming from lowing.  Al Arabiya is generally pro-Western, at least compared to Al Jazeera.

Yup, his "good move"  is called being an apologist.

Ok. I guess it depends on what type of person you are. Some would see it as more historic that he has broke from tradition to reach out to a people, who previous governments have not. The fact he has granted his first interview to an Arab network also shows the Arabs that he is serious about helping the ME. He has turned something which is basically ceremonial and worthless (we all hear his campaign) into a useful first step. As an American, you should be proud your leader is being proactive.
