Bass reflex sacrifices a tonne of accuracy for slightly more soun- er, noise. Sealed boxes > that any day.
If thats a sub which I think it is then it should be bass reflex. Speakers on the other hand don't have to be but that doesn't mean they are bad quality ones, far from that.

B&W makes good, "affordable" speakers.

I ordered my Wharfedales from the UK, like the sound from British speakers, certain kind of wood makes them sound softer.

Just curious about this unnecessarily ambiguous comment, is it in regard to Bose or some name that's come along since?

If it is, they're just as bad as the rest of Bose equipment.

Didn't notice this a week ago.

Bass reflex is only ok if it's properly implemented, something that 99% of manufacturers don't give a shit about, they just drill a hole somewhere. Good bass reflex usually comes in the form of a really, really thin hole that stretches across the whole lower edge of the speaker. What's on igs speaker is way too big of a hole to be a proper implementation.

Also, at Kmarion: Context please.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

What do you think? You know, considering the topic title.

I have and use their headphones and they sound great.

I would not buy their speakers though.

'Tis what I thought. I must disagree though, between my two pairs of Bose (in ear and circumaural) and Shure E2c's, the Shure's win by far. Even after a lengthy burn in, both sound thin in treble and muddy on everything below.

I'm no materials engineer, I can't top the analysis in the OP, so this is just from personal experience.

They sound better than anything I have ever owned, very full. The only knock I can say is they can break easy..

This was the last time I had to superglue them

In their defense I use the hell out of them.

I'm not trying to sound like a fanboi or anything, if I heard something better at a reasonable price I would certainly switch.

I would never consider their speakers though. I'm very happy with what at have now.

I have these headphones, theyre so fucking great... the bass is unparalleled, its so rich, and loud, but doesnt cancel out the music, its still all clear

My argument:

Bose Headphones = Somewhat pricey, but VERY fucking nice, overall worth the money.

Bose Speakers = Fucking rip-offs, they do the job but another system can do the same job for far less money.

Spot on.

I'll take my Polk (speakers) over Bose any day though.

I just don't think that's right.

AKG, Grado, Sennheiser, Shure, etc. If you're content with the Bose, all well and good, but consider some others next time you're in the market, could save you some cash.

I will and always do. I bought my last headphones after I demo'ed them. They were easily the most comfortable (again I use the hell out of them).  I'm not saying they are cost effective or even that they are better overall. But any contention that they are crap is simply not accurate in my opinion.
