Just came across this nice little article giving a for and against view regarding the preservation of Auschwitz (and other death/labour camps).

What are your opinions?

Mine, i say they should be preserved, so man better remembers why we must never let the world get to the state it was in post WWI

Preserve it, forever. People need to see it.

It's on my bucket list.

Ahh the magic of twisting and ignoring everything. The question here was that if we had Auschwitz around we wouldn't let any other atrocities happened. Are we doing any thing to stop it ? And that goes for the entire world. The answer is no.

As for US policing the world. That's a fucking joke. Us enters a conflict when it has interest. Otherwise they couldn't care less.

I'd like it to be kept. Partially because I've yet to visit, but as said before it's a reminder of what we must try to avoid at all costs.

We can only act after the atrocities have begun.  If we act beforehand to prevent any bloodshed, we’re “interfering with the affairs of others”.

If people want to pay for the upkeep, yes. It stops a lot of the deniers too.

Auschwitz is one of the world's best known 20th century sites. Keep it for remembrance as to what happened.
Oh, and I've yet to go!

Keep the work camps in Siberia and show it the world how many million people died there. Anyone care?

Quite.

I read something once when i was doing my German Alevel about how the majority of the German population didn't have a clue these camps existed (because they actually didn't). When Germany was overrun, and martial law declared, and the German populace went to see these sites, a whole bunch of them commited suicide in shame of their nation. If it had happened here, i would have done the same.

There are Europeans that would still like to shove a few Jews into the showers there. My guess is that they keep it open for future consideration.

If anyone runs the risk of being shoved into ovens here in Europe at the moment it's Muslims. It's still illegal to question the holocaust in some countries here while incitement of hatred against Muslims is completely tolerated and seen on an almost daily basis in the press.

Who's questioning the Holocaust? It happened and I have my step grandfather and his older relatives i met in the 1970s that gave first hand accounts on their dealing with and escaping from the Nazis.  Who is inciting hatred against the muslims in Europe? I thought the politicians stopped all that?

Not many people are questioning it... because it's illegal to do so! Funnily enough no one ever seems to get in trouble for questioning how many catholics or gypsies died in the holocaust though. As regards who is inciting hatred against Muslims? Many tabloid newspapers, a selection of supposed broadsheet newspapers, blogs, websites and news networks like Sky News don't help things much with their increasingly hyped and sensationalist approach to news and current affairs.

And no, the Government haven't been able to stop this yet.

yes the cartoons KMar... but the rioting by muslims and the apologies by the leaders on the grievous offense fixed all that.
