Oh i know, i just meant in the way that the main focus of the armed forces is to supplement/support the basic grunts. The other shit is nice and flashy and stuff, but in the end it is just another tool to help the army reach their goal. As i understand it that is the idea the armed services work around. Making the Army smaller in size doesn't make the other forces redundant, it just...screws a little with their purpose.

unlike what you might think, a nuke is a last resort. You don't go trigger happy with nukes, atleast, that's not supposed to happen and at the time of that invasion the Israeli leadership was wise and responsible enough to NOT use the nukes first. Nothing would've been more effective at breeding hate around them.

Well, technically our home defense jets in the main don't need runways, and there's always the motorways for the rest, but i digress

Yes well done on working out the nuke is a last resort, hence me saying if Israel had actually thought the invasion was a threat they would have used it, this was post WWII, they were still very paranoid about being exterminated, if they had though something similar was going to happen they would have launched those nukes.

Single spec ops might be of use, grunts work in units that's the whole basis of infantry warfare. You don't need to kill every man in any unit size to make it next to useless, at which you can use your smaller ground forces to mop up. You really are managing to miss the most basic things I have said. Reduce the army to strengthen the air and naval forces. A plane can launch a missile from well outside of visual range or alternatively you use ground based missile sites in the first place.

I forgot about the magic troops that can move lightning fast and get within range of assaulting our air fields without being spotted. Silly me... That's also after the magic invasion force actually manages to land on British soil.

Go and try convince marine or GS on your humble opinion that the army should be reduced in size, or anyone else who's actually had alot of military experience.

lulz yeah Ill go tell a grunt we don't need as many of them. Im pretty sure I know what they would say and I wouldn't blame them for it either.

I already know people who have RELEVANT military ties, i.e. friends and family who are in the Army and Navy in positions that actually involve knowing strategy and not just knowing tactics. Im not a military genius but im pretty sure neither are most grunts. Grunts know tactics because that is the scale of what they are involved in, tactics are not the same as strategy.

Im also still waiting on this invasion that's meant to be coming. been fun, laters.

OK, the Yom Kippur war. Theres a example of a serious threat to Israels well being, who knows, Israel may have even considered using their nuclear weapons. We do not know.

Iraq gave in 30,000 troops.
Egypt 800,000.
Syria 150,000.
These three had double the tanks, almost double the APCs, triple the artillery (prepositioned and fortified, with the advantage of higher ground in the case of the Golan Highs), and double the aircraft(which the Israeli aircraft were unable to do deep strike missions because of the unexpected presence of large amounts of advanced Soviet made SAMs). He said UK will never be invaded cuz they have nukes. and then said they havent been invaded in 1000 years, then when somebody who actually READ a book before showed him some proof of past invasions, he blew it off saying "I said when we had nukes", and claimed it null&void cuz viking tactics dont count as an invasion? Sooo, you have an army of 150k and you think it needs to be downsized?  While I agree that you need to work on your navy, your army is really small as is.  You can't just nuke an enemy invasion.  What, you nuke your own country and hope the attacker doesn't raise another army?

I believe that was more because the RAF kicked the s**t out of the Luftwaffe and the Nazis got heavily involved in Russia, otherwise UK would have been F***ed.

Wrong chap, the RAF got the shit kicked out of them by the Luftwaffe. Dont let a brit hear me say this, they all vehemently deny it, but on the day Hitler ordered all bombing attacks to go for London, jolly ole england only had about 60 serviceable fighters left to throw up at the hundreds of nazi planes still hammering them every day. Hitler and Hitler alone ruined his dumbass scheme. It literally would only have taken another week to knock the RAF out of the battle.

unlike 99% of this forum they have an actually credible opinion on the matter. I love how uneducated people who say they have "studied" the military should have more of an opinion on what's going on than them. They don't. Period. Grunts actually fight by these tactics, especially those who have been in combat situations have experience of how these tactics work.

Strategic questions my ass, you learn from history not from made up scenario's. Besides, as I stated before the defense of your country stretches beyond your own borders in the 21st century.
