" when the United states catches a fever, the rest of the world catches a cold..."

In this gloom, the Prime Minister has but one slender hope: that somehow, by force of personality, the new President Obama engineers a rapid American recovery restoring global confidence, energising the markets and making us all forget this bad dream.
U.K.;
isn't it sad to realize that your economy is so fragile that a recession in the Americas breaks your back?

Or, if there is something else going on please inform me.

Just goes to show how dependant we are on each other despite the distance between capitals.

UK is getting especially hit because much of the success enjoyed in recent times has been during the musical chairs that is the financial markets in the city.  In Scotland, apparantly 1/5 of the working population is in the financial industry and as such gets pretty heavily hit whenever banks anounce UK cuts in jobs.

Not much of a manufacturing base either bar some niche markets like whisky and, erm, bentleys? (which now that I think about it are German more or less).

We're all screwed, and I will see you in hell lads

That was the lesson during the great depression also.

ATG, the entire world was engaging in the same poor financial decision making.

Is their any western country out there that isn't doing some sort of economic bail out?

Aye but learning from past mistakes is so lame.  Apparantly.

The whole bank lending thing wasn't just between USA and USA, we got hit bad too.

And when you factor in that the majority of our income depends upon financial services, really really hit us bad.

There is ( and I am serious ) one aspect of Sharia law that should be implemented in the U.S., and that is the part about it being illegal for banks to charge interest.

There should be a well regulated yet profitable fee scheme. 30% interest; to Obama Nigga, please.

I want us to go back to a day when the kingdom mints its own coin. At the point we let banks tell us how much the treasury was worth we were screwed.

any attempt to view the above post as racist is subject to extreme facesplat failure. feel free to pm me if you are incapable of seeing the humor.

Pretty much...  although there is something to be said for life in a country that is both small and prosperous.  Norway does seem to have prepared itself pretty well for economic troubles.

Granted, when you have less people than my state, I guess it must be easier to organize things in an optimal way.

The west dropped real life shit like manufacturing and industry (and even science/technology) for the fake smoke-and-mirrors charade that is the Financial industry, and now it's finally come to fruit, it's paying the price. That's all there is to say. It's especially moreso for certain European countries, like Iceland/UK. That really have nothing going for it in terms of natural resources etc.. (North sea reserves were fun whilst it lasted and pulled the UK out of the shitter from the post-coal days, but that's gone), and are now basically turning into tin pot nations...

There's no reason why the private sector in Norway would be spared. The difference is that the Norwegian government has the billions needed to make a bailout relatively painless.

You yanks love it when the "special relationship" requires the UK to follow you blindly into wars. To sacrifice British solders to forward your hawkish agenda. Then poke fun when we have finical problems?

The world is in recession. Not just the UK & US. Every country on the planet is hoping the US economy kicks off. You pushed globalization around the world to profit from other nations economy and visa verse. We are all linked financially. The Multi nationals and banks span borders.

This global recession is capitalist based and the USA is the hub of capitalism. The country got rich from unchecked capitalism and the UK, drooling, followed.
Ive been saying for years the UK should be aligning herself with Europe instead of begging for scraps at the US table.
Imperialism and interventionism disgust me. The UK aligning herself with the world police aggressor made me ditch my UK passport and get an Irish one.

Canada's problem is that they are tied to America very closely.

We consume 85% of your exports.  If we go down, you do next (unless you diversify your trade more).

Good point...  it would be nice if we had a surplus like that.

Well, to be fair, funds are withheld from payroll checks and paid into a fund for these unemployed workers.

These funds come mostly from the workers hourly wages.

So, the government pays for it mostly in that they give back money that have held out in payroll taxes, et all.

And we all know how the government hates that.

in this case it sure was.  the germans fucked it up big time and now they ruined a few towns.  and who gets the blame?  the USA.  because the media and their sheep cannot see the facts.

The first package was directed towards the finacial market ... $58 billion
