Off-duty military personnel serving at RAF Wittering in Cambridgeshire have been told they can once again wear their uniforms in Peterborough.

The restriction on wearing uniforms was imposed about 10 months ago after reports staff were verbally abused by people opposed to the war in Iraq.
End of the day, you may be opposed to the war in Iraq, as many do and i can sympathize. But to verbally abuse someone in the armed forces for being sent there, to do their job in the most difficult of circumstances is totally unacceptable.

Agreed, blame the politicians who start wars, not the soldiers trying to end them.

I abhor war, but I'm in 100% agreement with the above posted sentiments.

Reminds me of the disgraceful way the vietnam vets were treated. im ashamed of that part of our history, people spitting, abusing or physically attacking soldiers because they were sent to nam.... even conscripts.

About bloody time this was squared away! Like someone else above said. Regardless what your views of the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan are. You should always support the troops!

Yeah...  Supporting soldiers for their sacrifices is one thing, but if the military was doing something like setting up a police state, that would be a good time to stop supporting the troops.

"Always" is usually a bad word to use in this sort of thing.

Besides being morally repugnant, attacking returning vets is just plain stupid.  Sure, go ahead and take a swing at a trained soldier, see how long you stay conscious for...

I'd love to see that happen. Guy goes for a returning soldier/marine and gets his ass handed to him.

That's called discipline and not following orders is insubordination.

We should totally have a full one hour debate whether we should engage an enemy in a combat situation, whether he could be a combatant or a civilian. Each man in the whole division should have his say no matter what.
