i have been tryin to fix bf2 ever since 1.03 patch came out and my bf2 was working fine till i patch it. when i got it patch i kept on getting the error message saying "modified version revert to original" soo i thought ok ill uninstall and reinstall and when i did that and tried to patch up to 1.02 i get the error saying "patch failed" wtf? come on soo i went and researched and found thousands of people having the same problem as me. now i got through the "patch failed" error and the "modified version revert to original" and now when i start to play my bf2 jst crashes to my desktop witout and error messages. idk what to do ive been patient but now im dying here i want to play soo bad. its jst one problem after another.
it maybe the default graphics settings. but...
-did you delete all BF2 files including the ones in C:\Documents and Settings\mort4u\My Documents\Battlefield 2?
if thats the case it might help. open he video.con (wordpad) in the profiles folder and check if its ok or change it there.
i had this problem. my nvidia driver forced a vsync of 75 Hz and BF2 wanted to start with 60 Hz so it just went back to desktop all the time without any message

no dont delete them.
open them in wordpad and see if the resolution is right. if not change it to the desired resolution and refresh rate and then save.

k thnx bro, and how bout the "modified content blah blah blah problem? any clues. after all these forums ive visited only have helped out
it seems to turn crash more at 800by600 now. idk ive tried every solution i was playing earlier fine after a couple of tries
